I didn't do the pull strings, I ran the actual wires to where the speakers would go and got good measurements so after we moved in, I cut a hole for the speaker and the wires were right there. Worked like a charm. One thing I wish someone would have told me was to mark locations in the 2x4s of where to drill to drop wires down into the walls for volume controls. Once your up in the attic and drywall is up, it gets a little confusing knowing exactly where the rooms divide/where the walls are. Had I know, I would have done some red X's or something similar on top of the 2x4s where I would later want to drill and feed wire down into.
I didn't ask as I learned from the first question I asked which was can I have garage floor epoxy coated and they said no.

Easier to get forgiveness than permission.

I would have run actual wires but by the time I decided to do it, I didn't have the wire and wanted to order it from Monoprice and didn't know if I had enough time before locks were installed.

Mine has insulation in roof, not on ceiling. Makes attic an insulated space but better than that, all joists, studs, tie plates, are visible.

Did you try looking for where the electrical or other wires are? That will tell you where the walls are. Still have to get other measurement as you have to get the right stud cavity but I'd think it would be fairly easy to hit the wall especially if it a bearing wall and running perpendicular to the ceiling joists. Of course you could hit the stud too if your luck is like mine.

My electrical wiring was weird, not sure where they dropped it down into the walls but it ran mostly horizontally through the walls and not vertically from the ceiling down into the wall. Some areas it did, but but I wanted to drop my speaker cables into the next cavity over (separated by the studs) so there wouldn't be any electrical interference (something I read online, not sure if it really makes a difference or not).

You must have the foam insulation stuff that attached to the underside of the roof? That's some nice stuff.
