where to go for beaches
We want to try the desert. It will be something new and we don't plan to compare and moan and groan. We do love the beach. If we can't handle it, we'll leave.
Also, I know there is a lot of anti-hispanic bias but we don't feel that way living in FL. We're ok with latino culture and don't stereotype anyone so if you don't agree with that, please keep your thoughts to yourself.
To tie this together my question is how are the beaches in Sonora State (MX)? Or should we go the the extra couple hours to San Diego?
Mexico looks more appealing that the built up CA. beaches and I can't handle the rough, chilly Pacific. I'm thinking the Sea of Cortes is calmer.
I'm looking at Puerto Peñasco/Rocky Point if any one has first hand knowledge.

Yeah Mexico would be a good choice for you and you wouldn't have to deal with all the anti hispanic bias

The beaches near Puerto Penasco are much calmer and warmer than San Diego's. I don't know if you are interested in camping, that's what we always did, but development has taken over many of the better spots.
Farther south around San Carlos are more good beaches with snorkeling.

We never have, ever and I don't think we could handle the real primitive stuff but since we now keep kosher, it may be the way to go so we always have food that's appropriate and I don't mean gefilte fish or matzoh balls
Snorkeling sounds good. love seeing the little fishies. Beaches sound like my speed.

He-he, you're welcome.
Feel better helping old ladies , unless you're faking it. I tend to have very little sympathy for lazy bums.

I am from Tucson and I have to say that the waters in the Pacific Ocean are very cold indeed. Especially in San Diego, I have went to San Diego in August a few years back. Supposedly August was supposed to be the warmest month for the water. WEll it was freezing, utterly un-comfortable. I still went in the water though, but I did not like it.
Now I went to Rocky Point (Sea Of Cortez) in Late October this year, Let me tell you this the water was actually warm!! In fact I complained that the water should be colder a few degrees!!
It amazing how warm the water is in October there.
So if you want warm ocean waters that are just as close as San Diego if not closer. Go to Rocky Point. Also it much cheaper even if you get a nice room in a resort.
The water truly is warm there for about 7 months of the year.
