Hi George,
We live in Ocean County (about 20 minutes from Toms River). The shore is beautiful, but the cost of living isn't! We just found out that we're moving to NC after all, which we're very happy about (not as happy as if it had been Maine, but that's okay)! I have friends who are moving to Austin. They've visited there a few times and love it. Plus housing, especially outside the city limits, is very affordable. (How 'bout those housing prices in NJ? OUCH!) All the places you mentioned sound like a good choice since you're looking for a warmer climate. Good luck with your move! Alex Last edited by lovemaine; 02-27-2006 at 08:44 PM. |

If you like driving all over the place just to get to a mall or restaurant or sitting in traffic then Phoenix is your place, I live in Albuquerque and everything is conviently located all together here and I went to Phoenix last week and that city is terrible, the weather is perfect but getting around is not, also the people are not very friendly, maybe cause they drive in Phoenix.
for example on every street I was on they have a lil shopping center with one or two restaurants scattered somewhere down the street and the rest is just gas stations and houses. If I were you I would try Tucson,Albuquerque,El Paso or San Antonio, great weather in all those places too. |

Goopd luck with the relocation. I hope you like heat, no water, illegal immigrants by the truck and trailer load, drive by shootings and the 3rd worst city in the US of A. I can hardly wait to get out of this dump. The highways are full of little, it takes 12 hrs in the ER if you have an emergancy, the government here has basically handed AZ over to Mexico and that's exactly what living here is like. Lousy school system, useless goverment and a right to work economy that is about the lowest in the US. When you get here you probably should learn spanish. It is the OFFICIAL language of AZ. I will not be sad to see this place in my rear view mirror.

First off: Arizona is trying to keep out illegal immigrants and is getting better at it every day. Second: Drive by shooting are rare and usually are only in the slum parts of Mesa and Phoenix. You don't find them in the normal areas of AZ, you're perfectly safe living in mostly every area of the greater Phoenix area. Third: The highways are not full of litter, I drive them everyday and have yet to see trash. Fourth: The government isn't even close to "handing our state over to Mexico". I don't even know where you came up with this, must be in some racist newsletter you recieve. Fifth: Most school systems are BETTER than the US average. Again, you will only find the bad systems in the low-down areas of Mesa and Phoenix. I live in Scottsdale and we have some of the best schools in the entire US! Sixth: Our economy is booming, if you want a good job, you will find it. Businesses are relocating here like bees on honey. Seventh: You must live in a low-down part of Arizona, because all I hear is English being spoken to me. I know some Espanol, but I have no need to use it. There, I corrected your post . |

SpeedyAZ, thank you for your post! Those of us relocating find your attention to detail comforting. It was a bit scary reading the other post. We are headed your way in June to our new home in Peoria. I just got back this morning from a 4 day stay in Goodyear. We are very much looking forward to our move and meeting great positive people like yourself. Thanks very much.

! Some people just like to spread meaningless propoganda and deter others from moving to a place they hate. I hope your move goes well, it is really beautiful down here and I'm sure you'll love it! The heat is the only real problem here, 110F isn't for everyone, but I feel that 3 months of dry heat is worth 9 months of sunny and warm paradise . |

SpeedyAZ, in the part of Maine we are from the first snow usually flies the first week of October and the last of the snow in mid April. We are encouraged by the fact that no matter how HOT it gets in Phoenix, we will never again have to SHOVEL out to the car! Thanks again..
