Not sure if any of you guys follow the weather like I do I'm by no means an expert but I follow the national weather service discussion website it's a little technical but not that much. Early this week Hurricane ODILE early forecast said it would head out to colder water to the west but now as of today modals are showing a turn to the north on the same path as the other 2 which brought 5+ inches of rain to the valley.

Here is a video I shot last week in moon valley around 330 am

Way to far out to predict with any kind of accuracy. Though I bet it does do well for ratings to hype it all just a bit.

Here's my prediction method that I think is just as sound....heads or tails?

Agreed. A lot of recency bias going on. Like all summers would bring many crazy hurricanes and then poof nothing happening since 2005.

To some extent, but when you get good model agreement you have to start thinking it might happen. The models are coming into pretty good agreement that Odile is going to take the same path as Norbert. However, there were some other factors that came into play with Norbert. My prediction: there will be a lot of rain with this one again, but the big totals will be in SE California and western Arizona . PHX area will get some but it won't be like earlier week.

I don't follow it because, really, what's the point? In terms of spending time to be well-informed, I'd rather spend the time trying to understand political goings-on. In terms of predicting weather, it's so unreliable to be laughable. (I recently had to fly cross-country and when I checked a week in advance, the weather was predicted to be clear in the west and stormy in the east; four days later, it had completely reversed.) In terms of my own activities, really, it's not as if it helps much to have someone guess what's happening later in the week. If it's going to flood, it's not like I can do anything about it.

Sandbags. It might help to stock up, especially if you live in Chandler.

One good thing about the new storm system coming our way that we'll have lower temps. That means bicycle riding will be nicer and power consumption / bill will be lower. This year my power bill is definitively less than last year. Certainly positive.
