Hi,

There is a good chance that I will be moving to the Phoenix area in December to work at a golf course in Scottsdale. I'd love to live 15 minutes from work, but based on my research, the N. Scottsdale area is out of my budget.

I've discovered a few month-to-month rentals on Craigslist which fit my budget. It appears the commute would be 25 - 30 minutes depending on where. The Bethany Rd. and I17 area seems nice, but a bit further than I want to drive - 35 minutes or so.

I'd appreciate suggestions about affordable ($500 - $600 per month for a room in a house) neighborhoods near TPC Scottsdale. Thanks.

I would try looking in South Scottsdale; it fits your budget and IMO is a nicer area than I-17 & Bethany. I'm sure other people will chime in too...Good luck!

If you're ok with just a room in a house I bet you could find something near the course. Maybe try airbnb in 85255. Sometimes you can find interesting longer term rentals there.

I'd try like hell to get closer than I-17 and Bethany!!!....and I think you'll be able to....

see if you can stay W of Scottsdale Rd and N of Cactus (and E of 40th St) and you'll be outside the premium-laden City of Scottsdale (you'll be in Phx city limits), but will be in a very nice and convenient area and close enough to the TPC....

I17 and Bethany is not a good area at all stay well clear of anything west of central south of camelback in Phoenix. Stay out of Sunnyslope (google it) and also the bad square in the area centered around 29th ST and Greenway north to bell rd lot of run down apartments. If you want to be close to Scottsdale check out 32nd ST north of Shea anything north east of there is good gets a lot better as you get near Scottsdale. Apartments near Paradise Valley mall are nice as well not sure if that is in your price range. If you can get something around Paradise Valley Mall still in Phoenix but close to Scottsdale not bad. South Scottsdale older homes but still nice. What ever you do don't go I-17 and Bethany anywhere south or south west Phoenix is really bad.

Thanks for the replies. Is the area near 15th Ave. and Peoria nice?

Any other websites advertising rooms for rent in houses, other than Craigslist?

No, I wouldn't recommend that area either. It's known for run-down apartments and halfway houses/sobriety houses.

Try using one of these:

phoenix.roommatelocator.com Google the zip codes on the listing to see where it is.

easyroommate.com/arizona/phoenix-roommate Scroll to the bottom to see a few of the new listings.

Feel free to ask again about the neighborhoods you are thinking about. Sorry no HTML links. I guess it's because I'm new on here

Hailey,

Thanks for the Roommate Locator website. It is great. Hopefully I can find something nice and close to work on it.

What do people think about downtown Mesa? It seems like it is pretty nice.
