They are sealing the asphalt in our neighborhood and I love that they are actually doing the whole width of the street, not just the cracks. Does this differ from city to city or do they all eventually do the whole street when the times comes? I seem to remember in our old neighborhood, they just did the cracks and it looked awful.

I would assume that the approach varies by city, or within the city depending on any number of circumstances, including $$$. I've seen where they do the cracks, as you describe, but then later they come along and resurface, and other areas where "just the cracks" stays for a longer time.

There are different types of asphalt repair methods...I guess the situation can dictate which one is used. I assume the quick 'crack seal' method is the quickest and least inexpensive.

My Brother moved to Phoenix(Ahwatukee) from Chandler (Ocotillo) and his street was just completely resealed. His neighbors say the city does it every 5 years. In the entire time he lived in Ocotillo, 20 years, his street was never resealed and was falling apart. It was a patchwork of sealed cracked and the asphalt was even crumbling at the sidewalk.

We've lived in the city of Phoenix since the 70's and have had our streets completely resealed on a few occasions. I couldn't tell you the frequency but I don't remember any partial jobs.
