Are you sure that your house is not equipped to use both ? I could use both, electric or gas for my stove. They also might have put in that line to use for a BBQ. A lot more convenient than changing gas bottles. I don't know about the heating. Maybe the line is there but you would have to change the heat exchanger. As for the water heater, gas is a LOT cheaper than electric. I know, we had an electric one at one time. But of course to benefit from it, you would have to change your water heater and as long as it is working it does not make real sense to throw it out. But the day you will have to change it, I would switch to gas.
