Can anyone recommend a reasonably priced home watch company to check on my home in Sun City West?

How about watching it yourself? That's what I do. Install on one these for $200 Vera . Buy a z-wave (wireless) thermostat for $100, add some water sensors if you like for $40. Add an electronic door pad IF you want. That way you can change the pass-codes on the fly for $200. If someone hits the keypad, you will be emailed and texted (or a wrong code or ???). I use it to let in deliveries, a neighbor etc. When my alarm went off, I let in the police in the house electronically to check it out.

For $40 more per light switch, put in Z-wave Intermatic switch Intermatic CA600 InTouch Wireless Z Wave 600 Watt Wall Dimmable Switch | eBay . The Vera will turn on and off lights based off of how you want them to seem like you are home. I work off my zip code so that it will follow the sunsets and programmed for random activity.

You can add cameras for $175. For $599, I used a IP 4 camera system like this Q-See 8 Channel 720p HD Security System with 1TB Hard Drive, 4 720p Cameras, 100' Night Vision - Sam's Club . Now I can log into my home and see what is going on. I hired a talented local guy to install for $275. PM me if you want his name.

10 years ago, this was a $20,000 price tag. In 2014, it's $1500 and a DIY project.

Next, I have my neighbors keep an eye on the place along with a cellphone security system. Also, the city of Surprise walks the lot 3 times a week using retired volunteers. I sent them an appreciation check which wasn't required. But do call the non-emergency Surprise police phone number and see if they cover SSW. I see them walking the lot with my camera's all summer long.
