I found myself turning on the air conditioning in the car during all months of the year, even December. I can't stand the a/c.

Don't believe people who say that the heat only lasts for 3 months...more like 6-7 months (April - October, even the 1st part of November) of real heat (which in my opinion is 80+). I had a GREAT job, lived in a nice house in a superp area, BUT, I hated every day of life that I spent in that dreadful desert. After I visited home, which has 4 seasons, I told myslef that I have to get out of Phoenix and I have to do it ASAP. Well, I did that nearly two years ago and have never been happier. Sure, I could have a better job but my sanity isn't worth a few bucks. I can't believe how much the dryness of the desert depressed me. I still am sick of the sun and look forward to cloudy and rainy days. No need to wear stupid sunglasses every freakin' day or to put on sunblock.

I feel so free now! Sorry to go off but that is how I feel

I have lived here almost 6 years, If i haven't lost count. lol. I envy the fact that you got to get out of this horrid weather, I look forward to my time for leaveing it all behind, I dream of a nice brick house with a fireplace you can use, lush green yard filled with all the trees and flowers I use to know how to plant and when to plant them, running the water hose and not getting dirty looks for washing off the dirt on your walkway, not having to worry about always having bottle water stacked in your garage. And not having to think about water and how little there is, never enough rain, etc etc. I never ever had to give water so much as a thought till I moved here, oh well I could go on and on, but I will leave you to enjoy your new environment lol still need sun glasses here, oops I mentioned another thing

If no one has anything valuable to take, then there's really no motive, is there? Poor people robbing poor people is essentially a zero-sum game, if you get my point.
So you are saying the real scum is still back in Detroit? So, telling people to relocate to Detroit is like sending sheep to wolves? I got your point.

Obviously the O.P. created this thread to create controversy. Phoenix is so perfect

Maybe we should all move there, and make your roads more congested, your water scarce, higher cost of living, less jobs, and then see if you still have a smile on your face.

You are aware of the major cultural centers spread throughout the Valley?

Well, you get the idea

Hot? Yes. So what? Is Denver cold? Yes - So what? Each to their own. You don't like hot - I don't like cold - big deal
I agree.

I may be a Wash DC native but that place will never see me again in this lifetime. Some folks like DC and I respect them

Like Greatday: I despise '4 season' weather.

I used to go around putting down people for liking the seasons; not anymore.

Santa Fe has better art museums, and I wont even compare it to what we have here, thats laughable. Im glad you have these things and all, but the rest of the country has had them for 100s of years (in some cases) and clearly outshine what PHX has. When will you understand that? Go to the Guggenheim or the Chicago Art Institute and youll agree. IN fact, youll probably be ashamed at what PHX brought to the table, so to speak. And your largest park sucks too. Nothing but gravel and no shade. I know, Ive hiked it several times. Its not exactly beautiful, neither is Papago. About the ONLY place Ive been to in PHX that I was impressed with was the Heard Museum. Now THAT was classy and informative, lots of nice artifacts. Sports? What the hell does PHX know about sports, other than the D-cracks got lucky one year? You still cant draw crowds, other than to Suns events, and even when you do, most fans are for the opposing team. LOL The Cards are laughable, as is the putrid design of a stadium (still not as bad as Chase Field though). But dont feel bad, Soldier Field is ugly now too. The Coyotes? HA! Ok. No comment there. The JobRing Arena is boring and small, kinda like the Coyote fan base. DOH! And dont use "tremendous" and "lakes" together to describe AZ's lakes, thats a joke. There are no beaches (unless you like gravel and cacti in your feet) and theyre all man made. Ive been on Bartlett, Saguaro and Lake Pleasant several times thank you very much.

Betcha didnt think Ive done that much there, did ya? All but one thing you mentioned Ive been to. And theres lots more where that came from.
For someone who obviously does not care for the Phoenix area; why do you even bother posting here on the Arizona boards time and time again??

I certainly do not go to the Illinois boards slamming Chicago, et al.

And; I have zero desire to visit that part of the country.

But, many people like Chitown

Hey I am not defending Phoenix or totally found of it, I will be the first to point many of it obvious flaws and problems as I transplanted from So Cal 7 months ago but if you think Detroit is a more livable city than Phoenix, you are mistaken...I have been to 15+ States and 30+ cities, Detroit is far from ideal both life standards, employment and weather goes, but then again it is my opinion, to each his own, right?
Oh btw, I stopped smiling way before I relocated to AZ! Every place has its flaws, undesirables, cons, no place is perfect but I just don't get people's one-sided and often biased bashing of Phoenix just because they don't like warm climate or desert or etc., like this one guy who claimed it is hot down here 6-7 months out of a year, he thinks a low-humid 70-80 degrees is hot!
He might be right, after all penguins and polar bears are entitled to their opinion too who am I to judge, right?
It annoys me when people transplanted from some other place start criticizing or smacktalking about Phoenix just because they are homesick or it is too hot for them here or they are lonely or whatever, that is plain stupid.
Or they whine about finding no culture in Phoenix. This is a reltively new city that is in the process of growing and finding its culture but this will naturally take time and whatever culture it had, will re-shape in the meantime whether people like it or not but it is a gradual process, how can one expect to find the culture of an old.ss city like Chicago or NY in a younger, much smaller city that is under constant, recent development?
These people need to realize they will not find the same environment/weather/culture that they had left behind, this is a new city, new environment, take it for what it is or don't let the cactii hit your gripingbutt on the way out...

1 Luv.

I think there was a chance in the 1980's for Detroit to reinvent itself, but they started building larger, less fuel efficient vehicles again once oil prices fell. They've tied themselves to the price of oil and manufacturing jobs, which is a recipe for further disaster. I hear a lot of "Bring back the manufacturing jobs!", sorry it's not going to happen and it's a damn shame, but the unions basically ate their own members. The music and sports are great though...
This is absolutely correct. Coleman Young is personally responsible for creating more problems in the city of Detroit during his misguided tenure in the '80's than any other singular cause. Amazing that, 20 years later, the city is still suffering from the damage that he did. Not that it was the greatest of places before he took office, but his asinine policies basically drove a stake through the heart of the place.
