just realize that Scottsdale is one thing to visitors and another thing to residents....it may not be the be-all-and-end-all you envision it as.....

will you have to commute back to Phx for work every day?....
I would try to find employment locally in Scottsdale.

I'm pretty certain the OP isn't the only one who thinks that way.

Just about everything is more expensive in Scottsdale because of the name, the stigma, and the reputation it has for being the in spot.

The OP should stay in central Phoenix or rent a small place in northern Tempe. Living in Scottsdale is way overpriced imho.

There is substance to the price premium over just "the name". Over 200k people see value in living in Scottsdale.

No way, Central Phoenix is meh for me. The only part of CenPho I like is the Arcadia area (44th st) which is more East-Central near Scottsdale. The downtown/central ave corridor doesn't do anything for me outside of having the light-rail as a resource. Northern Tempe would be an improvement as would other area of the valley. It's just nicer over there.

Worth every penny from what I've seen.

If you search in northern Tempe you might find something priced more reasonably than Scottsdale.

That way you would be close to nightlife on Mill and not all that far from oldtown.

I guess if you like more nightlife and a better choice of restaurants & bars, Scottsdale would be the place for you. Downtown Phoenix has some of that, but there usually has to be some kind of event such as Suns, DBacks games, or concerts to get a large crowd downtown at night. I know what you mean about the north Central Corridor ... that has always been active by day because it's a large office/employment area, but it's very lackluster at night & on weekends. I personally like Arcadia ... but like much of Scottsdale, it would be rather expensive to live there.

Do any of you actually REALLY live in scottsdale? Ive been here for 5 years and never have noticed things more expensive here than other parts of the valley. You can EASILY find a studio for 800$ near old town. You guys are crazy!
