Arizona man arrested in grisly 1990s murders of two young women

"PHOENIX - An Arizona man has been arrested in the mutilation murders of two young women in the early 1990s, crimes that remained unsolved for two decades after they shook the Phoenix area, police said on Wednesday.

Bryan Patrick Miller, 42, was taken into custody at his Phoenix home on Tuesday night on suspicion of first-degree murder in the separate killings of Angela Brasso, 22, and Melanie Bernas, 17, Phoenix police spokesman Sergeant Trent Crump said.

Both victims had been riding bicycles near a Phoenix canal when they were abducted and murdered."

Those of us who have lived here a long time remember these cases well. I hope that justice will be served, if the police do have their man.

Yeah, they were especially grizzly. It is fascinating that they found the (alleged) perp after all these years. I heard on the news that he has a 15 yo daughter though. It has to be tough on her to have this happening in her life.

I remember reading the signs posted along the canal back in the early 90's I used to ride bikes along there and see those signs describing what happened and to call a phone number if you knew anything.

You could see how dangerous times were back then. I mean look at the Phoenix and the national murder rate in 92 and 93 compared to now.

1992 Phoenix murder rate - 13.6
1993 Phoenix murder rate - 15.2

2013 Phoenix murder rate - 7.9

-----------------------------------

1992 USA murder rate - 9.3
1993 USA murder rate - 9.5

2013 USA murder rate - 4.5
