We really enjoyed staying in Cave Creek and are looking at relocating to the Phoenix area. Obviously, I need to get a job first and eventually my wife and I have two kids one boy and one girl 9 years of age.

We really liked the Cave Creek area as some areas had much more land between the homes versus the 10 feet in some subdivisions we looked at. I don't need a ton of land but it would be nice to leave Suburbia (Chicagoland) and have something unique almost like somewhat of a getaway to some extent.

I'm curious if there are other areas like Cave Creek in the Phoenix area that are still like that and would be within a 45 minute commute in rush hour to either Scottsdale or the Phoenix downtown/businesses where most of the jobs are.

Again - I'm living in Chicago suburbs now so forgive me if this is answered 10x over in the forums... I'll look there as well.

Thanks,

Kris

Much of far north Scottsdale is like that, as is Carefree.

The Cave Creek area is somewhat unique because of it's commitment to maintaining natural open spaces and a natural desert environment. Even the planned developments (with a few exceptions) maintain open space between homes and resist the "grid" lot layouts of a lot of other neighborhoods.

The interesting thing about Cave Creek is that it is a magnet for activities nearly every weekend. People come from all parts of the valley to visit Harold's, the Buffalo Chip, the Hideaway and the dozens of other touristy activities. It is also a gateway to some of the best outdoor recreation & hiking trails in the valley. It can be a fun place to live near.

In addition to Cave Creek parts of N. Phoenix, the Desert Hills/New River area and N. Scottsdale all have areas that try to maintain that semi-rural atmosphere. You still get the shopping, dining and other amenities without being too far to commute to the city.

Check out North Scottsdale, Carefree, Fountain Hills, and if your budget allows, Paradise Valley.

Is there a region in North Scottsdale that you particularly recommend? Streets/NSEW of those?

In general, North of Pinnacle Peak Rd. Also, maybe areas out East towards Fountain Hills.

Home get cheaper as you go toward Rio Verde 1 acre lot homes dip into 200-300k range most of the newer built homes are over 300k. I have a coworker who drives from Rio Verde to downtown Phoenix takes him about 45 minutes in the morning.

Carefree, Scottsdale (mostly North), Arcadia (Phoenix) will appeal to the Midwesterner in you, Fountain Hills, Paradise Valley, East Mesa, and more.

There's no place like Cave Creek anywhere. I've lived here since '93. Awesome Schools and so much atmosphere. Plus Creekers are awesome. And, it's not as far from everything as you might think. My recommendation is come to AZ before deciding where you are going to ultimately purchase a house and stay a while. Y
