Which community?

Welcome to underfunded Arizona. Dysart is laying off 170 teachers because a bond didn't pass. I feel your concern.

That said, I'll bet the farm if my kids went to the local high school they would have done well. Parenting trumps school budgets. But it doesn't help to have overworked and underpaid teachers.

In Sierra Montana, the fees are higher in the Missions ($115 a month) because we don't have to pay for the landscaping outside our house, or the water for it (as far as I know) and as for the Rec Center, it's open to the entire city, and it's geared for youth. I have no kids or desire to use it.

I appreciate the feedback from all who replied.

Besides the management quality of a community(good or bad in terms of budgeting money), I think the other big factor that determines the HOA dues is the size of the community, ie more households = more people paying in and all things being equal, less dues.

Ha, Ha, Ibarrio. Front lawn Nazi's indeed!! I swear they just go around the neighborhoods turning people in. I got a weed notice in FEBRUARY. Come on, there were very few weeds and they were short. I have to say that Ashton Ranch subdivision where I am is right on the money with keeping yards clean. HOA fees are $52 per month this year. That includes 3 swimming pools, several park area's but no clubhouse.

I mean, there are no ramps when you have to cross a road, it's mostly curbs you need to jump off of.

If you're living in a Surprise HOA, please share your experiences. Good or bad. I like Surprise, but don't care much for Sierra Montana. Thanks.
While this is an old post, for the record Sierra Montana HOA's fees are not as quoted by the author. They are currently at $65 per month and have not increased in several years.
