Morning, Phoenicians! Anyone have experience with bathroom renovations in the area?

We are renovating our 6' x 12' bathroom and the contractor wants 5000$ for the labor.

We are providing EVERYTHING: tub, toilet, vanity, faucet, valve, tile, grout...

The labor consists of the following:

-Demo and dispose of existing tub, surround, vanity, toilet and flooring.
-Install new tub and valve assembly.
-Install niche, backerboard and waterproofing.
-Install new vanity and top.
-Tile tub surround, wainscot around toilet to vanity and bath flooring.
-Hook up sink/faucet, set toilet and set finish in shower
-demo the existing mirror and medicine cabinet and patch up the drywall

Does 5000$ sound reasonable?

Also, is there usually a contract for this kind of stuff? The contactor says there isn't one. What if we're not happy with how it comes out as far as the quality of their work?

If I were you I'd get at least three more quotes from contractors. $5k sounds high especially if the cost of materials is not included in that. Also you should definitely have a contract and scope of services. Is the person you've been talking with a licensed contractor?

That sounds a little high to me but not totally out of whack. Depending on how many guys he has it sounds like a week to ten day job max for that size bath. There's no way I would let him touch my bath without a contract! Make sure you have one and at most the terms should be 1/3 down, and don't give him that until the day they're there to demo,1/3 when half way done then the remaining 1/3 at completion. Good luck.
