My fiancee and I will be wed this September and we are looking forward to going to Greece for our honeymoon. We are fairly certain that we want to be included in some form of tour group, but want to have time to venture out on our own. My concern is that I am way over my head in planning something like this and would like to get a bit of guidance. I have not used a travel agent before, but would be open to working with one.

Several Google searches is only showing me travel agents who have experience planning trips to Europe, but I was hoping to find someone who truly has experience with Greece or knowing which companies to tour with in Greece.

Does anyone have any suggestions or possibly a recommendation to work with someone?

Greatly appreciate it!

Greece is absolutely gorgeous. I can't think of a more perfect place than Santorini. Forget the gorgeous views, history and weather; the food alone (don't forget the Ouzo!) is worth the trip.

I'm a travel agent. It sounds like you want what's called an FIT trip where you customize your itinerary to with some independence to explore on your own but also some structure with escorted touring as well. Though myself and my employer do not specialize in Greece, I've been in the industry long enough to where I could give you some recommendations.

For one thing it doesn't make a whole lot of difference whether or not you work with a local travel agent. The days of stopping by your local travel agent's office has really faded out, and many of them work remotely from the internet at home. Many of them who work in large corporate offices like AAA and American Express have obligations to book with "preferred vendors" that are other large companies like Delta Vacations. Steer clear of those as they tend to lean on their own interests and resources and not your best interest when planning a vacation.

With focus on Greece, check this vendor out: Travel to Greece, Greece Luxury Vacation, Greece Holidays. They have BBB accreditation and an affiliation with Ensemble (one of the best travel agency consortiums), so I'm pretty sure they're trustworthy and they specialize in Greece. Call them or email them and let me know what you think.

Thank you Desert! You understand completely what we are looking for. We would love to have some escorted tours, but also have moments where we can break away. I'll keep an eye for AAA and American Express as well. I really am hoping that if I work with a travel agent they will be looking at things that are for my best interest and not theirs.

Going to show my fiancee the website you linked and get her thoughts. I'll write you back real soon. Thanks!

If you have any other recommendations please feel free to share them otherwise I would be happy to contact you in private as well.

I wouldn't be to quick to make a deposit on any vacation in Greece.
Greece is a beautiful country to visit. (Mod edit-one sentence deleted)
