I think they did this for the West Valley and possible Scottsdale area as well.
Yeah, I didn't recognize some of the Ahwatukee addresses and assumed they were somewhere else.

Just from the area straddling the Cave Creek border I could tell if I kept driving I'd see a lot of nice homes. And it is in an actual town or city like PV. I wouldn't be surprised if Carefree came in second place. Scottsdale, of course, has a lot of wealth but it is just a victim of it's massive size. Well, not really a victim because who (other than very materialistic people) care if their town is in ranking like this or not.
You are right. There is a lot of wealth in Carefree. It's wealth isn't as much defined by its active wage earners, but by those retired with investments and other sources of income. Right now, there are 53 single family listings above $1,000,000, with the highest at $5,750,000. The lowest priced single family on the market right now is $439,000.

Its wealth, not it's wealth! Ugh. Not sure why I can't edit my own post.

That's what happens when you increase the size of the denominator (population). Some people don't have the ability to understand, and some just use statistics as social capital, or even just to irritate other people. Scottsdale is a big city, so it's not going to boast the same numbers as a little east coast 2 square mile bedroom community that has zero commercial property, zero crime, and a huge median income (for all 781 residents).

This url shows census data on a map of the valley that I think gives a better general overall view of where the wealth is/isn't. Just select "Household Income" on the right:

Arizona Census Information

You can also type in an address to drill down further to see different types of census data in your own neighborhood.
