I've seen quite a few of them in our backyard flying in groups. They almost look like a mosquito hawk but the one's I've seen around our house are smaller than the mosquito hawk's. Perhaps a similiar variety/in the same family?

Yes, but theres a ton of them this year because of all the mosquitoes we have had due to all the water - so more crane flies! I'm glad to see them.

Crane fly. They are absolutely EVERYWHERE this year. Ive never seen them this bad before. Contrary to popular belief, they do not eat mosquitos, although I wish they did.

They've been hanging out on my patio since near the end of the last monsoon season.

Didn't mean to hijack this thread, but I've seen a rather ominous looking insect, lately. It looks like a big bumble bee, but is pure black. It was buzzing around my house and came in my garage. Anyone else seen them?
