I REALLY wish fewer people would give their dogs unsupervised access to their yards while they're away at work. It gives them free reign to bark incessantly at whatever they would like, whenever they would like and for as long as they would like, at the expense of the neighbors' sanity. Our neighbors have a dog who has trained itself to bark like a loony every time it hears a truck of any size drive by the house, and in a neighborhood where they are still building homes, trucks come by all day long.

Exactly. A little less "me" thinking from some people who think they are the only one's who exist in a neighborhood is certainly the right thing to do.

Have you talked to your neighbors about their excessive dog barking? Or if you think they are the looney/mind your own business/standoffish type I will do what I want heck with the neighbors type, called in to report excessive dog barking which is against the law and a ticketable offense in most parts of the valley?

I think I lucked out big time with my dog. He has full access to outside 24/7 and doesn't bark one bit. I built him a little sun deck and he'll just lay there sunning like the lazy dog he is.

Other dogs in my neighborhood are the opposite. When I'm out walking mine there's a certain cul-de-sac we walk by that sets off no less than 8 dogs at the same time with non-stop barking. Luckily I can't really them from my house.

We will have to agree to disagree. My dog was not a barker, if you have a dog that does, then yes, that might be a problem. I don't think you can make a blanket statement that no dog is safe outslde alone for more than a few minutes.

Blame the people that cut city lots into postage stamps, I live on acreage, so my dogs don't bother the neighbors, nor do their dogs bother me.

If you want a dog yard don't buy a postage stamp. My neighbors dog has access to the yard and dog door. It whines and barks non-stop as soon as everyone leaves their house. It belongs to her not him and he hopes it just "disappears" soon. Hopefully before I return.

Amen! Dog barking is among the most annoying sounds on earth. Just another reason to love my silent kitties.
