Hello Everyone, I like many others that posted here am curious about living in the Phoenix area. My wife and I are starting a business, right now it is in the beginning stages of the whole thing. This business is designed to be more of a outdoor application. Meaning that the ability to do indoor work is there, the main componant is the outside which requires a warmer climate. Right now we live in a area of the county that is cold, and we have the 4 seasons, which would hurt the business in the winter months when it is too cold to apply our product outdoors. We have a 2 year old daughter, who of course will be starting school in a few years. My wife works in the insurance industry currently and would probably do that there. We are wondering where a good place to live could be so that we could cehck into it a little more when we are down there in March. Our price range for houses would be 200- 225 range, is there anything decent in a decent neighborhood there?? Of course we want to be in a safe neighborhood for our daughter how also has a good school for our daughter when that timd comes, Thanks for all your help, and any info would be great!

There are many, many areas where you can find homes in that price range. On the west side, there is Goodyear, Surprise, and Buckeye - all new, rapidly growing, safe areas with good to excellent schools.

Hello mawilson. Sorry I was slow to see your post.

For your outside business you are choosing the right state, in my opinion. You will be able to work outside much of the year.

Do you have any idea where your wife will be working?

You can find homes in good areas in your price range. We just need a little more detail in order to help you.

Phoenix is a large metropolitan area with suburban areas on the west and the east. People on the east prefer the east and people on the west prefer the west, so you will hear strong opinions on each side.

I live on the east side so naturally my preferences are the east side.

However, the most inportant thing to consider first is where you wife will work because the commute time will determine how far you wish to live from where she works. Your budget for homes will also affect that to a degree.

Can you use a small yard. In your price range you're probably looking at a 7,000 ft lot size.
  • Will your business be virtually invisible to the neighbors?
  • Will it create extra traffic in the community?
Those are important questions because in a Home Owners Association community, and there are many here, there are restrictions on home operated businesses.

That's good for a start.

Thank you for your responses,
My wife is in the insurance business, Allstate to be exact, from what we hear Allstate has a major hub in phoenix. we unfortuanty do not know where that is yet, but are trying to find out.
As for my side of it and the business, It is a concrete surfacing and restoration business. We take existing concrete as well has many other surfaces and make them look like granite tile stone ect. the only thing i have is a truck and trailer, which the trailer is enclosed. We live in a condo now so the size of any yard is going to be larger and a upgrade from what we have now. The business is all away from the house, flyer advertising ect, we do not do business at the house in any way.

Yes, Queen Creek is in the east valley. The commute to central Phoenix is a nightmare at the present time, but your wife may find a satellite office without having to work in Phoenix.

Next week I'll be listing a home in QC. It's a little above your price range but there are plenty of homes in QC that are in your price range. You can get a 2000 sq ft home in your price range.

The market there is depressed at the present time. If you plan to stay for a long time then you should be ok by buying out there. But for a short time holding it would be very risky.

Here is a link to the town of Queen Creek Queen Creek : Home

Thank you again,
I have been looking on google maps and google earth ect, the queen creek area seems reasonably close to Gilbert, if she could find a decent job there and I could get the business up and running well there is the commute from Queen Creek to Gilbert, or Chandler reasonable?

It is reasonable, and the actual time would depend on where in Gilbert you're going, and what section in QC you live. It would be doable and will get better as the get the roads get added. It's in the works but will take time.

You can also find a home in Gilbert in your price range. Gilbert is a better location. The homes in your range would be older homes. But the market is more stable in Gilbert, and the schools are better.

Chandler is immediately to the west of Gilbert, so depending on where the job is in Chandler it could add a few minutes. There is the 202 freeway that runs east and west, which helps.
