plus with the 101 running parallel just a couple miles north of Bell, even less pressing need for a light rail in that area.....

Right. A lot of true commuting traffic has gone north to the 101. A lot of the traffic on Bell is not commuter traffic, and would not use the rail.

I created a thread in the past of a dream light rail system for the Phoenix area, and my Orange Line would serve part of Bell Road from Arrowhead Towne Center to 59th Avenue. You can find the full route in that thread (do a search and read through the posts in that thread, because I modified the route slightly after the thread was created).

Light rail seems to chug along at 30 MPH and it makes ridiculously frequent stops. It seems that it is just a glorified city bus on tracks. We really, really could use commuter rail. Run a line up Grand all the way past Bell to the 303, run a line in the median of the 10 to Verrado Way in Buckeye, run a line in the other direction to east Mesa and Gilbert, run a line down the 17 from Anthem, and run a line from Ahwatukee/Chandler toward downtown. This is what is needed rather than some light rail that is forced to stop at traffic lights (ridiculous), travels 30 MPH (seriously?), and travels down the middle of busy streets instead of in its own right of way (obnoxious).

This makes way to much common sense, so the power of being will never Green Light it

The problem with commuter rail is that what is the best route for a freight train may not be the best route for transit use from a ridership perspective. Light rail is more flexible and can better serve important catchment areas. The Grand Avenue Limited bus only runs a few times a day, and as far as I know it doesn't get a lot of ridership.

That's one way I avoided Bell. Only problem is that it ends at 67th.

The commuter rail option could be useful. A lot better than the light rail as it stands now.

Why not have a commuter rail through scottsdale up to bell, and then have a line go off west through Lincoln and go all the way to the Biltmore area at 24th st.

Are there any existing tracks? Without them, it would end up being more expensive than light rail since there would have to be significant right-of-way acquired.

IMO this is also too short for commuter rail; commuter rail only works for longer distances with more widely spaced stops.

Everything off of Scottsdale Road is auto oriented. There are no destinations on N. Scottsdale Road other than Kierland/Scottsdale Quarter that would be remotely well-served or accessible by light rail. People in that area have cars and ridership would be very low. Every busy road in metro Phoenix doesn't need light rail traveling down the median just because.

Guess neither of you realized how I proposed to butcher Paradise Valley, the most expensive zip code in this state, by have a light rail travel along Scottsdale rd, and worse, cut directly through Lincoln
