Not looking for anything 5* or super fancy as we will have two children aged 9 and 6 with us. Just looking for a nice little place with solid food. Anything a local can recommend in terms of Italian?

I really like Pomo Pizzeria. They have a few locations.

On the west side I would recommend Cucina Tagliani - Family owned, been in the neighborhood for years. They have two locations, one on 83rd Avenue and Bell and the other on 59th and Bell. Both are nice enough, the one on 59th is usually a little busier. Menu is large, food is usually pretty good.

In Central Phoenix, I would recommend Harley's Italian Bistro, on 7th Avenue north of Indian School. Another locally owned restaurant - unique place, interesting atmosphere. The menu is a little on the small side but portions are large and everything I've tried has been pretty good.

The only non-chain Italian place I have been to in the east valley was RigaTony's - Their old location on Arizona Ave in Chandler. Was a pretty good place, but the last few times I went there were less than stellar. They have since moved to a new location on Warner just off of McClintock. Might be worth a shot if you're on the east side.

I know some will bash me for this, but Buca di Beppo has my favorite chicken parmesan. Just because a restaurant is family owned doesn't automatically make their food better.

As for pizza, I like Pomo, Grimaldi's, and Zappone's (northeast Gilbert).

I recommend Vito's in North Scottsdale, on Frank Lloyd. Nice red sauce style Italian restaurant with nice ambiance (but suitable for kids) that never disappoints. Been there many times.

ANZIO's at Cactus & 28th Ave. Great food, family oriented, very popular local mom & pop restaurant.

My favorite is Veneto Trattoria in the Hilton Village on Scottsdale Road.

The parking lot at the olive garden looks pretty full.
