Well, I'll be in Phoenix the weekend of the 26th and 27th. I plan on coming back in the summer, but I just could not wait to go, so I'm taking a premature trip.

I had no plans of visiting the Grand Canyon since I will only have 2 full days of time, but for some reason I feel it will be a waste not to go. I've checked online, and it seems like it will be about a 4 hour drive from Phoenix to the GC, can anyone confirm this?

I'm really excited about visiting, too bad I can't stay longer.

I would say to skip the Grand Canyon if your only here for 2 days. That trip will take one entire day. Take the two days to explore the valley. Just drive around all over. This place is so incredibly huge that it will take you a long time just doing that.

I agree with that...

On one of my exploration trips here I took 1 whole day and drove the loops. I started in Scottsdale, took the 101 W. to I-17S. and drove around Glendale, took I-17 S again to the 202 and looked at Chandler & Tempe and then took the 101 N. back up to Scottsdale.

It was tiring but I did get to see some of the towns I was interested in. Maybe a similar trip with a street map in tow would help you get the most out of your visit.

Don't drive up north and see the Grand Canyon unless if you want to make that your Arizona vacation. If you're going on a house-hunting trip, and you only have 2 days to do it, focus on the Phoenix area. All that stuff up north is great-- and if you end up living here, I'm sure you'll see it plenty of times. However, if you're living in Phoenix, you'll be spending 98% of your waking hours in Phoenix, so I would really explore the place and make sure it's a place you really want to live.

I agree with the other posters, and say skip it for now. If youre going back in summer, then leave it for that time. Its not as hot in the northern parts of AZ, so you wont have to be in 100 degree heat (unless youre hiking down of course).

And yes, it does take about 4 hours. Its a nice drive, but it will take up 1 full day of your limited time.

I've skipped it for 20 years........still haven't seen it and have no plans to see it. I'd rather go to Vegas for the umpteen time.

I've got you on this one. I've missed it for 32 years. I feel like the only native who hasn't seen the Grand Canyon. I just never had the urge to take the trip. I'm sure someday I will.
