Its a solifugid... aka a "camel spider" or a "sun spider" or a "wind scorpion". Harmless, not venomous, but can bite pretty good if handled and aggravated.

It's ugly as hell! I'm a native kid and never saw one. Wow.

Thanks for answering!

That second ugly-of-all-uglies is the main reason it wasn't Buddy Holly and the Vinegaroons.

Those are completely different than vinegaroons. Vinegaroons have a long, whip-like tail which disperses a vinegar-like liquid to repel predators. They are really nothing like solifugids ("camel spiders") in the slightest bit.

Hmmm...good to know...but I don't think it looks like a "camel spider" at all:

Definitely a Sun Spider though:

I am sure there are different strains of both depending on region...seems a bit confusing since people are using the common names interchangeably for a number of different appearing bugs.

Anyway...creepy whatever it is.

These vinegaroons seem to be less seen than scorpions, in my experience as well. I've only seen ONE, EVER, and I believe it was burrowing into the ground!

Common names are the last thing I like to use, for that exact reason. The picture posted above from AZ is a solifugid, thats why I referenced that name first, then the common names after.
