Have possible job opportunity in Glendale. What kind of community is Glendale? How are housing costs?

Glendale is a large community north Glendale should be your target area to live. Glendale has wonderful shopping, the Peoria sports complex, the Glendale arena, Cardinals stadium and much more. I lived there for many years while my kids were growing up. We had great neighbors it felt like a real sense of community. If you have kids you should look for housing in the Peoria school dist or Deer Valley wouldn't be bad, but not the Glendale school district. You could get a decent 4 bedroom with a pool less than 300,000.
[moderator CUT] If I could answer any other questions let me know.

a1m1700 is right. if I had to choose, I would Northern Glendale only because I like the neighborhoods better. if you can afford it, look north of loop 101. peoria schools are highly rated but i wouldn't want to live in most of peoria.

Nothing is wrong with Peoria, it's literally right next to Glendale. I personally like the neighborhoods in North Glendale better, but the neighborhoods in Northern Peoria are still nice.

Thanks to all for your help. One other option we are exploring is to buy a mobile home in one of the "retirement communities". I am over 55. Are there any in Glendale? We have been looking on the internet and the closest one we found is about a 30 minute commute to downtown Glendale. Our preference is to live in Glendale.
The rationale behind the retirement community is we could own the place by the time I do retire and then we could become full-fleged snowbirds. :-)

I know there's one in Glendale but it's pretty old and not too nice. Most of the retirement communities here are in Sun City and Sun City West, Sun City is located just West of Peoria, which is just West of Glendale. Both are pretty nice areas, lots of things nearby.

Thank you, Nicole. Do you by chance know the names of any of them, so we can look them up on the internet?

Sorry I don't know any specific, but both cities are 55+ only so I would just do a search online for mobile homes in either city. There is a train that runs down Grand Ave, so if train noises bother you I would stay away from Grand.

AzCentral has a good site for homes.

There are a few very nice retirment communities that have manufactured homes in Gold Canyon. The area has been built up quite a bit and has all amenities and a great view of the mountains. Just look up Gold Canyon AZ retirement and you will see some sites. The older section of Sun Lakes in Chandler AZ also has what you are looking for.
