2015 version: This is a rivalry for many Phoenicians and people are VERY passionate about this topic, who wins this old rivalry and why?

WEST VALLEY: Avondale, Buckeye, El Mirage, Glendale, Goodyear, Litchfield Park, Peoria, Surprise, Tolleson
Youngtown, sun city, ect.

EAST VALLEY:Scottsdale, Tempe, Mesa, Chandler, Paradise Valley, Queen Creek, Scottsdale, ect.

I grew up in Scottsdale so i'm going with east valley (except for the fact that East siders can be a bit snobbish when it comes to the west side, which is a turn off).

You must be joking? Do you ever watch the nightly news at 10? Most of the hold-ups occur on the west walley.

While the west cities you cite aren't ghetto like lots of west Phoenix, I wouldn't buy in the west valley PERIOD.

First of all, who cares who wins? I'm not voting, I live in the east Valley, but I like a lot of areas in the west Valley and would not be opposed to living there.

Second, you don't live here any more (so I don't know why you care) and you are new to this forum, but there has been discussion for YEARS about the East Valley/West Valley comparison. Lots of overgeneralizing and stereotyping, but it all comes down to that there are those who love where they are on both sides. The west Valley has changed in many positive respects over the last several years, more than t, so there's been some evolution in the population and in the attitudes of those who live there.

I don't see this thread bringing anything new to the discussion. I'll predict more of what has been posted here before.

Both have their pro's and con's and everyone decides to live where they live for different reasons.

We're happy with our choice to live in the West Valley because there is less "hustle and bustle" where we live. We go nuts when we visit the east valley and couldn't imagine living in over there. It is very nice in the east valley, just not for us.

Also, don't buy into the nonsense in the first response to your post about the west valley being crime-ridden and undesirable. Outside of a couple pockets (which the east valley has also) that isn't the case at all. He must watch a different news broadcast then I do as the crime seems to be spread all over.

I'm all about the City Proper, Tempe, South Scottsdale, Mesa and Chandler. Cities that want to be cities and not over sized shopping malls complete with parking lot housing.

That's like saying I wouldn't buy in Phoenix, period, because of crime pockets in south Phoenix. Or pockets that exist in North Phoenix. Or wouldn't buy in the east valley, period, because of pockets in Mesa. Or Apache Junction.

Yes.

Look at all the maps around the valley that report crime data.

This map shows most of the valley but not all east valley pockets like Mesa. Type in Phoenix and zoom in on it and other parts of the valley and see the overall "nice" fairly uniform distribution of crime:

RAIDS Online: Regional Analysis and Information Sharing

What actually surprised me was looking at Maryvale on this map that everyone harps/gets down on. Compare the crime dots in Maryvale to other areas of the valley, in the east valley, just for "fun".....

For some reason the above map doesn't show anything going on in certain parts of the east valley like Mesa. This one will get you Mesa:

https://www.crimereports.com/

Despite the mantra of west valley has more crime than east valley, I see more crime dots/markers in the east valley and Phoenix overall than the west valley. More population of course has something to do with that but if the argument is that west valley crime is higher than east valley, that is flat out wrong and nonsense. Data is your friend.

So can we finally put the east/west valley crime nonsense distortions to bed and agree there are many nice pockets of places to live, in both the east and the west valley, depending on what one is looking for?

I guess none of you watch the 10 oclock news. I rarely hear convenience store robberies happening in Scottsdale or Ahwatukee. The Phoenix avenues have these robberies all the time!
