How does a dash-cam prevent one's auto from being shot at or hit?

It won't, but it might catch the perp with footage for police to review later.

Better than nothing right? And it might prevent the perp from shooting if he/she knows that most people are driving around with dashcams that might catch them in the act.

Do you have a better suggestion?

How many people really drive around with a dash cam? Not many. None that I know personally. And if the person is shooting randomly there is very little chance they will recognize a dash cam or even be able to see it.

In my opinion, although tragic, this situation is not worth getting worked up over.

Russians drive with dashcams commonly and they capture all kinds of crazy stuff.

We need to find this perp and take him/her off the streets, and ward off copy cats.

Nothing to get worked over? It makes me jittery, and once someone gets killed / seriously injured a lot more people will be very worked over. I don't want to get shot, nor do I want any innocent person to get hurt.

A little bit of prevention might go a long way.

If the shot is coming from the 3 o'clock, 9 o'clock, or 6 o'clock position in relation to the direction of travel of the auto it would be useless... unless you have four of them installed.

Ridiculous, what the hell is wrong with people? Out and about with your family, innocent and then out of nowhere someone gets hit. I have no idea what I would do.

Yikes, that's a scary thing. My husband will be on the 1-10 tomorrow. I hope nobody gets hurt. Lots of disgruntled shooters lately.

I prefer to not live in fear and don't spend my life worrying if someone is going to randomly shoot me. Things happen people kill other people it's not worth living in a police state over with cameras everywhere including your vehicle.

True that.

Also, you're much more likely to be injured or die in a car accident than from some crazy shooting at you. Maybe you should stop driving all together if you're worked up about death or bodily injury.
