Since these DRIVING IN PHOENIX topics are mostly subjective anyway, here's my totally biased opinion:

Phoenix drivers in particular -- and Arizona drivers in general -- are some of the very best drivers in America.

Sorry, no link.

Yeah, I've been driving for decades, in many places around the country... and the last 5 years here. I have not noticed anywhere significantly better or worse than any other.

^^^ This is a more accurate measure of what poor driving is. Arizona didn't do too well...

To answer the OP's question, Phoenix drivers have very poor driving etiquette. They don't use their turn signals when changing lanes or turning, they'll cut you off, they speed, etc...
I disagree. Objective crash data vs one's subjective view on driving is not the same thing. There is a high correlation between aggressive/bad driving and driving etiquette which translates into higher accident rates. The data doesn't show that. Nor does it say there are no aggressive/bad drivers here. They are everywhere in every city. It's averages and we stack up very well to other metros in that regard. You have a right of course to believe your subjective view is the gold standard.

Though of course we are all entitled to our own views and join in the ....."they don't slow down, speed up, turn off/turn on your blinker, get out of that lane, etc. etc. you young/old/in between whipper snappers!".

In my own subjective opinion, after and still doing a great deal of driving just about everywhere in this country(short of Alaska)? The Phoenix metro is pretty mellow compared to many other places in this country in regards to driving etiquette, especially for such a large metro area.

I'm impressed. 14 posts and this hasn't yet descended into the argument about slow drivers in the fast lane.

Does it count that I hinted someone would say that in my "whipper snapper" line in my above post?

My bet is first wave of those complaints will come around Halloween, followed by Thanksgiving, Christmas/New Years and finally spring training.

The number of accidents tells only one side of the story. What about population density and inclement weather? Those two things can drastically increase the number of accidents in a city. That doesn't necessarily mean that the city has poor drivers. San Diego has terrible drivers, yet has a lower accident frequency than a lot of other cities that have drivers who use better driving etiquette. Why? Because it rarely rains and never snows there, the population density is also relatively low, so if (when) you need to slam on your breaks, swerve, etc... You can do so without your car sliding and skidding all over the place.

Did you read the Allstate study? They took the "snow/rain" factor into consideration in one of their normalized ranking criteria.

Regardless.....drive safe. And relax. We can only control our own driving game and that's to drive defensively. Complaining about other drivers solves nothing as we can't control the uncontrollable.
