I maybe taking job at Luke afb. I live in mobile al area. So used to heat. We have a dog and cat and avid motorcycle rider. Small house is fine. Just don't want to high crime rate.
Just me and my wife. I have 45 min commute now. I would like to noit be longer commute than that.

Thanks for any info. I see post bon subject. But all seem to be 5-8 years ago. Have things changed in past 5 years.

Is el mirage as bad as posts from 5-8 years ago ?

Don't pick El Mirage as there are much better choices close by.

You won't need anywhere near a 45 minute commute to find a good place to live with little/no crime. You need to be looking at Goodyear, Surprise and Litchfield Park.

If youre budget based, check out buckeye. Not as fancy as goodyear or surprise but for the price you can get a decent size home

Don't move to El Mirage. Do consider Surprise, though. Housing is well priced and there are a variety of choices (ranch, two story, new or older, pool or no pool, etc.), lots of shopping and amenities, it always ranks as one of the top in the rankings the safest cities in Arizona and today it was 15 minutes door to door to the Luke Commissary from our house in Marley Park.

Buckeye can be anywhere from 15- 30 minutes depending on which area. Verrado in Buckeye is about 15 min away. Nice community- very family oriented and safe, tree lined streets, doesnt feel like you are in the desert. I live in Goodyear, and my BF gets to the base in about 10 minutes- we live just off the 303. Goodyear is also very safe and close to ammenities.

Because you don't have kids then Surprise would be a good choice, do not go to El Mirage though. If the Dysart initiative passes this year then the Surprise schools will get a big funding boost and make it a good family oriented place again. My wife and I lived in Surprise for a while and left because the dining options are mediocre. Surprise rentals are between 900-1400 a month on average and there are a lot of options available, which means you can try to negotiate down. I've never lived south of Thunderbird in the valley so I can't comment on how nice Buckeye or the other areas are, or aren't.

Just rent for the short-term. Start with Litchield, then Goodyear or Avondale. Get used to the area, then decide.

The short commute and possibly the quality of life might be heaven after what you're used to. Great bike riding weather all year.

Military family housing is an option. You don't need to be active duty anymore and if you are an AF employee, you qualify.

I'll split the referral bonus with you. Luke Family Housing | Balfour Beatty Communities
