Sorry guys I've been around here for a while and noticed insane amounts of traffic ticket questions. I apologize in advance for the annoyance.... Now on to the post.

Got my first speeding ticket ever today. Apparently the speed limit suddenly drops on Elliott eastbound between Cooper and Gilbert from 45-35, and I mean.... way before the school zone. I was cruising along at 49 when I looked at the cop pointing his radar gun my way than immediately noticed the 35 MPH sign we was sitting under. Total speed trap! I have never had a speeding ticket in my life and I drive 50,000 miles a year. Regardless of the fact this limit changes for no better reason than a speed trap, I still failed to see the sign showing the lower limit before I got to it so, I understand I am at fault here (As BS as the setup here is IMO).

That all being said the officer said I had the option to do traffic school. I was seriously about to sign up tonight. For 14 MPH over my violation ARS 28-701A calls for a $225.00 fine. I'm just confused how my fine works when it comes to traffic school. My course is supposedly $35 and includes fees for my court (Gilbert municipal) to a grand total of $230 out the door. This doesn't make sense to me as the math isn't adding up. Can someone explain by chance? Thanks in advance.

I believe they roll the fine into the price of traffic school. Here's a link:

The benefit of traffic school is that points don't go on our license and doesn't result in higher insurance premiums.

The traffic school companies price the classes at about the same or more than the ticket would cost. They get you either way. If you pay the ticket, the money goes to support your city's operations though. But then you get the points and maybe an insurance hit on top of it.

Yeah, I'm thinking what they gave me was a rough estimation since my ticket hasn't posted yet. It's going to be ticket cost +$35 from what I'm gathering. I live in Mesa, ticket doesn't support MY city since I received it in Gilbert . Taking the class is a no brainer to preserve my perfect driving record especially, since I could do an hour or 2 a night, over just a few nights and be done with it. Thanks for your insight on this all. I know traffic ticket posts are getting old around here but, couldn't think of a better place to post for some quick info.

Downtown Gilbert is a giant speed trap. Cops are always there because they now they will catch someone.

When you pay the school, they pay the city, they only keep the $35 registration fee.
