Recommend a web search for Talk of Sun City. You'll find a sun city forum there to post questions. Great resource.

Thanks for all the suggestions to try SunCityTalk. I registered with them but we're experiencing a hopefully temporary glitch. They're working on getting me in. In the meantime:

Can anyone recommend a realtor that specializes in Sun City rentals? I figure I should rent for a year and make sure I like it before I buy.

Thanks for your replies. I appreciate it. Another question: I see a railroad runs through Sun City along route 60. Has that area negotiated an agreement with the rail lines to refrain from blowing their 110 decibel horns when approaching crossings in residential areas?

We hear the train but we are up above Bell and it is off in the distance...which I find delightfully haunting. If you are closer to the tracts down by Grand, you will hear it.

You can hear it because they haven't asked to be lowered. Sun City West has asked and been granted.

The tough part is there has been more than one death at the tracks between a car and the trains. We have more than our share of older folks driving who are stone cold deaf and I suspect the bigger concern than the noise is the effort to insure some of the old farts know there's a train coming.

Just my luck. Fry's grocery and the Oakmont and Lake View clubhouses are in amazingly close proximity (walking distance) to each other and that's the area where I'd want to live. It's also very close to the railroad (darn!).

Not good that you can even hear the horns way up there north of Bell. You might be able to tell I'm a light sleeper and not a fan of noise pollution.

Does anyone know where you can live in SC and be walking distance to one of the clubhouses (other than Mountain View or Marinette) and NOT hear the horns? Or at least be able to block them out with a white noise machine.

Like the jets flying overhead you get use to the train noise. And it's not that often either. I live 1/2 mile away and rarely hear them. The noise carry's further when it's late at night and the weather is very cold or low cloud cover. Several hundred people live right next to the tracks and you never hear any noise out of them about the railroad.

If we have our windows closed, we can't hear the train at all. Only very faint when opened. We can walk to Marinette and Safeway is right around the corner. You will have to pick your poison I fear and best of luck in your hunt. You should come and stay and take the tour to see where the best spot for you would be.

understand there are three rec centers? Yes.

can you use any of the three no matter which Sun City you live in? No, each city is independent of each other. You have to live in each city and have a rec card for that city to use that cities rec centers.
The 3 rec centers in Sun City you can use any and all of them anytime as long as you are a resident & have a valid rec card. The card is good for all 3 rec centers.

what are the HOA's in any of the three, are they all they same amount? Rec centers do not have a HOA. There are over 360 HOA's in Sun City alone, each having it's own regulations and they all fall under a blanket HOA called SHOA (Sun City Homeowners Association). Wherever you buy you will be in one of those HOA's plus you'll also have to get a rec card, 2 separate fees.
Thanks
^^^Bolded, hope that helps.
