Here is an article that describes how consumer rights groups are trying to get a law passed in November which would make Arizona a pro-consumer state instead of a pro-builder state.

If passed, the new law would make a lot of positive changes for new home buyers, including expanding the the current 2 year warranty policy given by builders to ten years.

I know that I would buy a home from a builder that has a 10 year warranty instead of the current 2 year warranty if I had a choice. It would be nice if some builders implemented this warranty on their own without the push from the legislators.

Another thing I would like to see go through congress is the abolition of manditory binding arbitration. Thanks to this, many builders feel they can get away with murder.

What I would also like to see is forced transparency on builders. I would like it law that they cannot deny phase inspections, walk-throughs or a complete denial of access to the construction site manager. Companies such as this are evasive and care more about making a buck than building a good quality home. They never seem to service their customers after there are problems either.
