C-4, it sounds like you are not quite ready to come out to PHX and start out on your own.
What is your education?
What line of work are you trained in?
What job experience do you have?
If you haven't been trained in some type of work, and if you have no job experience to speak of, I would suggest that you stay where you are so that you have a family support system until you can determine what line of work you want to pursue.
I'm not sure if your grandmother gave you money to come back to where you are now, or money to come to PHX, but anyway, one months rent is not enough money to come out here on.
If you cannot pay your rent here, your friend will quickly become not-your-friend, and will kick you out. I'm assuming that he wants you to help him with his rent, and is not planning on supporting you.
Then you will be homeless with no job, and no way to get back home.
I suggest that you take your new job. Get more education. Community colleges are very affordable. Get a career going. Save money. When you have job training that will get you work in Phoenix; and when you have enough money saved to pay for your own way out here; and at least money to last you for 6 months, then give it a try. But before you do that, research the job market to make sure you'll be able to get a job here first.
