Like ScottsdaleMark said, we still have a long way to go before giving up on our winter rains. The one drencher we had weeks ago was great.

CA mountain snow levels are at normal levels now (I believe I read that); however, their reservoirs will still remain low even if they have one healthy El Nino year.

"Normal" snowpack isn't going to make much of a dent in the drought. The point I was making was: we've heard all the hype from the weather experts that this winter would be much wetter and generally cooler than normal in our region thanks to the super strong El Niño. So far, it's only been slightly cooler than average ... but as far as precipitation, the season has been drier than normal thus far (once again).

In December when people were wondering what became of the effects from El Niño, the meteorologists were saying with confidence that the storms would begin in January. So far, a string of storms moved through in early January bringing a normal amount of rain/snow ... but nothing since, and not much is in the forecast for the rest of the month. I realize there's still February and March to go, but I'm not holding out for much hope based on the horrible track record of the NWS & their long range outlooks. I'll believe it when I see it.

You might want to consider a move north! For someone who hates the heat, this probably isn't the place for you any more than the Midwest was the place for me (I hate the cold and seasons). A great thing about this country; there's a climate for almost everyone. You just gotta move to find it.

Gee, I wonder where all those East Coast and Arizona residents are who were complaining about our winter weather? Are we still colder than the East Coast?

I am so sick of hearing about their damn storm(s). Honestly, there is life outside of the east coast.

People here especially natives really have no clue about what real winter weather is like. To complain about our winter was purely asinine. Look at what the people back east have to endure. And this applies to our summer as well. Our summer are uncomfortable but those high temps don't cause real problems for most people. People can complain all they want about our heat but our heat doesn't do this

  • More than 8,600 flights were canceled from Friday through Sunday, according to FlightAware.com.
  • More than 200,000 customers in 13 states were without power Saturday because of the storm, according to various energy companies. About 130,000 of them were in the Carolinas.
  • 989 traffic crashes and 793 disabled vehicles were responded to by Virginia State Police as of late Friday night.

These are real problems not "Waaah my car seat was too hot" problems.

Like I said, reality check! A lot of people on this thread needed one.

It was transplants on this board crying that they moved here and was too cold.

Speaking of that, this board surely has gotten divided on the transplants v natives issue.

In my experience, the natives complain the most about the weather because they haven't lived anywhere else and have no point of comparison. It's usually the transplants who are grateful for the weather because they've endured worse weather elsewhere and can appreciate our weather.

Regarding the native vs transplant issue. I'm okay with it. I think transplants have taken enough abuse on the forum for years. If the natives can't handle a little ribbing in return, they need to grow thicker skin.
