For many people it's a hobby, yes. For the good, it may be a second job or a part-time pursuit, but it is renumerative. For the best, it can be a full-time job. Even if you think art is pointless and never paid more than a few bucks for anything artistic because you don't see the value, surely we can all see that it's a real career field, and one that's quite hard to succeed in -- probably because many people don't ascribe any value to the work.
