I had to go downtown for business Monday. As I was driving to my next destination instead of taking the main road for some reason I turned to a residential street. This dog came out to the street and just stood in front of my car and forced me to stop. I got out and she came to me. I had some food I put down but she refused it - i put water and she refused that. As I opened my door to get back in the car she was trying to force herself in but I didn't let her in. I called the AZ Humane Society and I was holding on endlessly. So I thought about just leaving her and couldn't! So i looked for the Durango shelters' address, opened the door and let her in and drove her to the shelter.

I thought she had just had pups but found out she's still very much pregnant. I called today to see how she's doing and they tell me they will keep her until she has the pups + 2 months for nursing and then after they'll try to adopt them all out. She is so super friendly and happy and I'm so thankful I was there for her - here are her pictures.. maybe someone here will want to adopt her and/or one of her pups when they're available in 2mos Thanks

Oh, bless you for doing the right thing! I always take personal responsibility when I see an animal in distress. It.s one of the joys in my life. Maybe think about taking mommy or a pup when ready??

I unfortunately will not be able to adopt her I already have a zoo at my house- that's why I am posting really just preemptively so we can keep progress on her and her pups and hopefully we can get them adopted because this is a kill shelter

Lucky she jumped in your car don't know how many times I have tried to catch a loose dog but they just run away. I try not to chase them too much because they will run into busy street get hit by a car.

One fact that many people don't know is that Maricopa County places about 70%+ of the animals that come in there & the Humane Society actually only places just over 50%. It sure surprised me, i expected better of the humane society. Personally, i'd really think twice before taking an animal to the humane society.

That said, awesome on you for looking out for this dog! I think the best pets are shelter pets & I'm quite proud of the fact that I've never paid a "breeder" for an animal.
