There's fakes and snobs in every city in the Valley. Where Im at in Scottsdale, isnt affluent at all, and the people are amongst the kindest Ive encountered, theyd give you the shirts off their backs if you needed them to. In your hood theyd probably steal the shirt off my back!

See? Stereotypes suck, eh?

Since everybody only shops at Kohls in Surprise I bet you everybody has the same shirt as the one on his back anyway.

Ditto #2!

Scottsdale has a measly $200 per square foot average for housing. (see Real Estate Overview for Scottsdale, AZ - Trulia ) Just to get the facts straight, even the delapitated homes in Compton fetch more. It's $264average per square foot in Compton. Really! Real Estate Overview for Compton, CA - Trulia

Malibu is a solid 4X to 5X more expensive cost per square foot more than Scottsdale. I know some people in Scottsdale want to think they are all that. The people with the real money in Scottsdale happen to have their 2nd or 3rd or 4th home here. They don't hang out here in the summer time.

I clicked Paradise Valley. Just goes to show you how much people can trust surveys. Of course I like Paradise Valley. Not any "dumpy" neighborhoods like in Scottsdale.

Do I like Scottsdale more than Surprise? Sure? But I like living in a 4000 square foot home on a lake in MN 1/2 the year and then Surprise 1/2 the year in a 3600 square foot home. We like to entertain and have the friends visit from out of town. If I had one more zero after my net worth, I'd pick Malibu too. But a 2000 square foot older small house is >>$2M. An o.k. caliber 4000 home is over $4M more.

As you say, a lot of people in Surprise could "afford" to live in Scottsdale. The entire 20,000+ population Many don't care about the arts or hiking (I don't). So they picked a newer area so they could retire earlier versus paying interest on a mortgage.
Wait, are you directly comparing housing prices in California cities to housing prices in Arizona cities without taking anything else into account?

Pretending that we are competitive with California is an Arizonan's favorite pasttime. And I'm a native. It's ridiculous how much this board does it too.

1/2 of my posts were pulled. Hence, the message has been lost.

I chuckled ^^. That was a good one!

I do shop at Kohls (and Costco) for clothes. I have a saying: the person with the least amount of passions wins! I don't care at all about fashion, expensive cars, or keeping up with the Jones etc. My passions cost $$'s like anyone else. I blow $20K a year on vacations. That's a waste of $$'s to others.

This is a good book for people to understand. The Millionaire Next Door: The Surprising Secrets of America's Wealthy: Thomas J. Stanley, William D. Danko: 9781589795471: Amazon.com: Books . Too many people won't get there because they have not figured out how to live under their means. Granted. There are a lot of people in Surprise that are also living paycheck to paycheck. Same in Scottsdale.

What cracks me up is that some people actually think they are all that because they live in Scottsdale. I simply took the trade-off of living modestly like a lot of my new (post recession) neighbors.

In the meantime, I'm patiently waiting for that 30% off sale so I can get some more designer Marc Anthony clothes. lol

I know AJ will probably win as it's such a dump. But for me, Tolleson sucks. It's lame, nothing to do, trashy and full of some of the most bland cookie cutter houses a person could imagine.
