Too crowded-------if the Phx area had 1990's population; it would be downright nice

As for the summer heat: I suffered worse in the Wash DC area.

Drivers. Between not using turn signals, road rage, and outright reckless driving, there are some unacceptable habits. This is how I read these symptoms:

"I am too lazy to use turn signals" = I am also too lazy to wipe myself.

"I'm always late" = I'm organizationally challenged.

"You f-in !@#$%#@$@##" = My life stinks and I'm taking it out on you.

... not that these things don't occur elsewhere...

Here's some actual data on population density of US metro areas.

USA Urbanized Areas: 2000 Ranked by Population(465 Areas)

Many metro areas in the US are less densely populated than Phoenix.

Phoenix is a medium-density metro area because it has essentially the same density in all areas ranging from in-town "urban" neighborhoods to outer suburbs. If, however, we compare actual cities rather than metro areas, then Phoenix ranks very low in terms of density. It could become considerably more dense in its urban core before becoming "crowded" in comparison to most other cities of comparable population.

Regardless, I think that when Phoenicians complain about the area being "crowded," they are often really complaining about congestion. The two aren't the same. A small town might seem "crowded" at times if everyone is on the same two-lane road at once. In some ways, making Phoenix more dense in its core might actually make the city seem less "crowded" if it resulted in more people living closer to work, using transit, and engaging in other congestion-reducing behaviors.

The Phoenix area is much more densely populated than many other large metro areas in the USA and by extension, the world.

Smile Heat vs Humidity

Ok Houston gets very humid but only averages 93 degrees in its hottest month. Phoenix must average about 106-107 in its hottest months. I dont know wich is worse but maybe there are some people here who are from the Houston area that can tell us which is worse.

Got it. In that case, your point is well taken.

110F @ 15% humidity=heat index of 108F (Phoenix in July)

93F @ 80% humidity=heat index of 125F (Houston in July)

Weather Calculator (http://www.srh.noaa.gov/elp/wxcalc/heatindex.html - broken link)

Next question?

Seriously, it's not the heat.

It's the SUN.

125 is tolerable IF the sun isn't scalding your skin off piece by piece.

As far as humidity goes, most people do not like it, I on the other hand NEED it, because as you age your skin dries out and Phoenix only makes you age faster -- even if you are not in the sun.
The dry air is real tough on me. All it does for me is give me a bloody nose! LOL

But as far as the "heat" goes here, it's not so bad. Sure it's hot, but honestly, if you are in the shade, you'll be fine.

I lived in Phoenix for 4 years. I do not regret the experience but I could never see myself living there again. The worst things about Phoenix is my opinion are: HEAT, UNFRIENDLY PEOPLE AND THE KIND OF PEOPLE PHOENIX ATTRACTS.

HEAT: Terrible! I do not know how people can ever get used to it. I remember our AC bill being $200/month in the Summer. Horrible!

UNFRIENDLY PEOPLE: I don't know if this is because Phoenix has a mixture of people from all over the US and not a particular culture but I never got to meet any of my neighbors while I lived in Mesa. You say HI to people, they look at you like you are out of my mind. Much different from the culture here in MN
