Wow, Columbus is very trashy and blue collar? According to the 2007 Money Magazine "best large cities to live" report, Columbus was #8. Columbus has very, very classy areas. The arena district, short north, gateway, and especially german village. There are great bars, most of which in these areas are very, very nice. Arizona State cant even come CLOSE to Ohio State. Arizona State basically accepts anyone while Ohio State is one of the toughest public universities in America and offers some of the top programs in the country. Columbus is a very nice city while Phoenix is nothing but a gigantic suburb. Its a great place to raise kids and doesnt have half of the problems Phoenix does.
Nightlife in Phoenix usually stops about 10 at night. I mean, isnt that when all of the retirees go to bed???

The Phoenix area establishments are the type of places you would find in Las Vegas and LA.They usually have high cover prices and people are asked to dress up.

Moderator cut: rude Austin and Columbus have 30X the college atmosphere and 10X the bar scene that Tempe does. Also, what big college is in Jacksonville?

Phoenix fun
You sound like you like things going on and like some fun; Phoenix is not fun. Yes, there are nice restaurants, clubs, concerts, spas etc. but it is all about Desert, palmtrees, it is hot in summer, winters are ok, dry...no ocean, no trees..no grass, except in scottsdale where the evil rich ones (sorry, that is an english expression, evil rich means new rich people they show their money) with their swimmingpools, and there are some really cool $$$ houses over there, not bad their life. But for an average joe blow in Phoenix/Scottsdale...what are you going to do????REAL ESTATE DOWN and JOB MARKET IS HORRIBLE right now over there...it has at least been a good job market...I would say, why don't you consider AUSTIN TX, it is so much more fun..where you come from it is HIP..Arizona is very late back, rather superficial...but also quite progressive, alot of people go there because it is late back..that is about it..lots of traffic has phoenix too. But there are some nice areas..it all depends..There is Fountain Hills outside Scottsdale for instance, nice retiree type community..not bad..and there are lots of people they are loving it, but they all came from east, and are glad, they are not freezing anymore, and see some sun..
Where you are from Ft. Lauderdale has much more going for itself..I would not trade it...there is much more going on over there...and Arizona is not cheap anymore...I agree with some participants, that Houston and Austin are better choices. Cheaper and also offer more. If you like city life and low costs of living. You have the open spaces in Arizona, depending where you are, and it is late back, that is about it, but it is very dry and boring sunny weather every day..
