Default Safe Apartments

I'm looking for SAFE apartments in the Chandler, South Tempe, and Scottsdale areas. I'm moving in May and I narrowed it down to those three places. From what I've heard they are relatively safe, family orientated neighborhoods. Any ideas on specific apartments? Right now I'm not comapring prices - just amenities. I'm looking for a gated community and washer/dryer in unit. Any info would be greatly appreciated!!

Boston Square Apartments in Chandler are very nice. I just moved there last month, it is not gated but they do have security at night. Living rooms are very small though. The best part is that no one lives above you and you get a private patio.

We've lived at Crown Court Apartments on Princess Drive in Scottsdale for about five years, and we've been very happy. The apartment has a vaulted ceiling, fireplace (used about twice a year), full size w/d, about 1400 sf. The biggest thing that happened around here was when our neighbor's dog came up missing, they contacted a pet psychic. Eventually they posted their missing puppy on the internet and he was returned. It's really been nice, except for the FBR Open, which is just across the street, but that only happens once a year. Good luck.

I've lived at Pointe at South Mountain and Elliot's Crossing both in South Tempe area. Both are nice places. South Mountain is quiet but they had a problem with the rent-a-cop harrasing their own residents. Elliott's crossing aparments are newer but louder. Both have w/d - but not gated...

Desert Club near Princess and Scottsdale. Just a few minutes from kiowa65. The buildings are pretty new-I believe they were just completed a few years ago.

In-Suite full size washer and dryer. One thing to watch for in communities around here: some of them put the washer and dryer in a storage area off the patio/balcony! Not very convenient. I dont like the tiny up/down washer dryers either that some communities have. I have a laundry room in my unit right off the kitchen behind double doors with full size washer/dryer.

We are gated and they have a Sheriff or something that is around at night.

Plus: not sure how much you cook, but very few apartments around here have gas ranges. Desert Club is one of the few that did and I love that!

Pretty much all the apartments I looked at in this part of town have built in microwave.

We also have nice patio/balcony with each of the units. That is a huge plus here where it is nice being outside most of the year. Some apartments I looked at I ruled out because they had skimpy or nonexistent patio/balcony areas. My balcony has french doors out onto it which lets a lot of light in and I can open both doors and literally have an open air extension to my livingroom.

Granite countertops are a nice feature in many of the higher end apartments. We have those at Desert Club granite tile.

Soaking tubs are nice, the real deep big ones. I have one. Only problem is it is not as easy as a standard tub to clean.

Look for tile or wood floors in many of the higher end units. My unit has tile in the bathrooms and kitchen and entry.

Try to get 2 full baths if possible. I am very glad I have 2 full baths.

Also look for ceiling fans-a definite plus.

Split layout plans are popular. Ie where the bedrooms are at opposite ends of the unit.

See if you can find one with a private garage. I have one. Rents an extra $50 but worth it in the summer. I believe some of the units here have walkdowns directly into their garage.

Nice fitness center, gorgeous pool and hot tub with outdoor grill and entertaining area. A business center where you can use computers or send faxes/make copies. I think they even do Yoga classes but not quite my speed...

There are also some brand new just now opening apartments sort of around the corner off Princess or Mayo. Barossa or something I think they are called?

Some others I liked, both of which are give or take a less than 5-10 minute drive:

Desert Parks Vista at DC Ranch. Desert Parks is in one of the older "planned communities" and I seem to recall that as a resident you get full or partial access to all of the amenities of DC Ranch comunity.

Shade at Desert Ridge. Shade I think just finished construction within the last year. It is really convenient-right across from Desert Ridge shopping area.
