I just spent the week in the Pacific North West for some vacation. I can't really afford to take more time off to head to Arizona this weekend. The heat is a concern and something I should think about closely. I used to live in Pasadena CA where it got as high as 100 in the summer, but that still, does not compare to AZ temperatures.

Most people's experience with the heat is about 30 seconds walking from a parking lot to wherever they are going.

He should experience parking his car by no trees and having to wait for the AC to start blowing cold. That is Summer in a nutshell.

OP, I agree with the other posters who recommend visiting here in the summertime to get a feel of how much you can tolerate the heat, it's not for everyone.

The heat in Phoenix can be very intense in June, July, and August but the other eight or nine months are very pleasant.

I get the issue with the heat, but weather is something I can get used to. I spent a year in Iraq, so I am no newbie to very hot weather. I'm really interested in the prospect of owning a home for an affordable price. I am not getting any younger, and if I stay in the bay, I will never own a home. It's just too unaffordable with my income. I also enjoy traveling and participating in numerous leisure activities. With a spouse I could afford a home some where really far from my work site in SF, but then I'd be house poor and unable to do the things that bring me joy.

I also like that Phoenix appears to be an inclusive area. The bay is also inclusive, which I enjoy, and far different than my experience living in LA.
