Buckeye to Blythe CA the absolute WORST stretch of highway in the state. I 10 in need of construction throughout La Paz County. Not sure what retirees see in Quartszite besides being dirt cheap. Might as well rv in Yuma which is much more infrastructure for cheap rv site rent. You can rent a space for $2500 per year in Yuma plus monthly electric

Well, yeah, because it still has farms. It's a dwindling number, but they're there. Those, and lots of trains.

Buckeye is, in a word, inconvenient.

If all the most important thing is getting to San Diego, why not live in San Diego?

It is unlikely that there will be any large scale commercial development out there in the next decade. It's not really connected to the rest of the Valley either. There are still quite a few agricultural fields that separate the subdivisions of Buckeye from those in Goodyear.
It is crazy how fast all the hype of the West Valley came crashing down. I remember everyone talking up west valley cities as the next scottsdale and how quickly they'd become larger than east side cities, how times have changed. it'll be interesting to see these cities adapt to the new reality, much slower growth.

With that kind of difference, you could commute for 20 years and still be ahead. Resale value wouldn't come into play for us as thus would be a retirement home with no desire to move anywhere else. Also, Laveen Village seems to be extremely affordable.
There is nothing wrong with Buckeye and it has grown quite nicely in my opinion. I compare it to Maricopa, both are nice areas, they are cheaper becasue they are a bit further out from Phoenix. I commute daily and have no issues.

It's because quite a few people (I'm not one of them) want to live in California, but without the financial cost, and "settle" when they choose to live here.

I say, you get what you pay for, and why higher prices in CA are justified

This is the most accurate non-p.c. description. It is truly in the middle of nowhere. It used to be a little shanty town on the way to Vegas that was in the middle of nowhere. As the Valley grew, Buckeye has slowly been incorporated into metro limits. But for all practical purposes, it's still in the middle of nowhere.

Buy now, reap later. Future growth has to go somewhere and Buckeye is a target area.

I get that but if being in SD is that important and you're okay with being in a rather empty desert city like Buckeye, why not just go live in the CA desert East of SD? Plenty of bargains once you go far enough inland and you're a helluva a lot closer to SD than Buckeye?

I'd think if I was compromising by living here, I'd at least want to be in the best party of the Phoenix area. I have no desire to live in CA though, so maybe I'm just not understanding.

^^^ this... That's been part of my point of view as well... Plus, I like the rural aspect (and hope it doesn't get over-developed, but I see it developing for sure)...

I kept hearing/reading people say the commute is bad... I guess like most things, it's relative. I've monitored Google Maps (extremely accurate time calculations based on real-time traffic conditions) every morning and afternoon, a few different times of day, for weeks... It takes me the same amount of time to go half the distance here (SoCal) - so I guess if you're not used to real traffic, it may seem like a long drive.

For many reasons, I chose Buckeye - and am waiting for house to be completed. I suppose I may regret it - but I'm overly analytical and research the hell out of things I get involved with - from what I've been able to determine, Buckeye is a good choice for me...

Of course, I have no need for clubs, museums, posh restaurants, theater, etc... I've spent my entire life in SoCal - have done the LA, Hollywood, Orange County scene for years... Been to tons of hip clubs and world class threaters & restaurants - I'm over that... So Buckeye may not be for those that haven't experienced that aspect of life - but when you've been there, done that and want to get away from it - a place like Buckeye makes a lot of sense,
