That is more so the areas along and south of Beardsley. I'm talking more in the areas along Lake Pleasant Parkway and Happy Valley Road east through north Phoenix towards I-17. There are many new communities that are very nice, lots of relatively new shopping centers, restaurants, and convenience stores. These areas have plentiful amenities for families, like parks, libraries, schools, and the like. The Peoria Unified School District, particularly the schools north of Bell, are generally some of the best schools in the Phoenix area.

Thanks for clearing that up.

I live in the southwest valley and I haven't really seen much of what the northwest suburbs have to offer, except the Arrowhead area which I was impressed with.

I was born and raised in the Northwest suburbs, they are very nice and quiet. Close to Lake Pleasant and a lot of open desert as well which is really nice. I used to live near Lake Pleasant Parkway and Beardsley and in the Arrowhead neighborhood before moving to the "hood" of DT Glendale area.

If you ever go to Lake Pleasant soon I advise taking Lake Pleasant Parkway down for a bit to look at the area. A lot of affordable new construction is happening in this corner of Phoenix metro. When I lived there it was the boonies but now it is a solid residential area that's very beautiful as well. You can always hop back on the 303 to go back home as it is close by there.

I am incredibly unfamiliar with the SE valley in comparison to most Phoenicians so I never comment on it. Though I do believe I would prefer the NW corner rather than the SE corner at the end of the day. I don't like how conservative and church-going the SE valley feels as a whole, it has a way different vibe and this vibe extends all the way down to Queen Creek which I'm more familiar with. Just not my cup of tea personally.

I'm closer to the 101 than the 303 but thanks for the recommendation.

Not all the southeast valley is conservative and church-oriented. Chandler, Tempe, and much of Mesa certainly aren't, Gilbert is more so.

Phoenix recently ranked as the fifth most religiously unaffiliated city in the nation, it's pretty easy to find plenty of areas here that don't have that churchy culture. PRRI

You are correct about Chandler, Tempe, and much of Mesa not being church oriented, however, politically Mesa and Chandler are still conservative cities overall (especially Mesa) even without the Mormon influence. Only Chandler west of the Loop 101 (Kyrene area) and far west Mesa (such as the Fiesta District) are somewhat liberal. Of those cities only Tempe can be described as somewhat liberal.

Where do you get your data from in regards to this? I know my area of South Chandler is not heavily religious by any means (happy for this). I speak only from the several hundreds of people I know and their kids that live in the area. It seems to be a very moderate area politically, some more liberal and others more conservative, but maybe slightly right leaning (somewhat fiscally conservative), I don't see my area of Chandler any more conservative or liberal than West Chandler.

Is this just your "gut feel" or does data exist?

I have posted on these forums before a link with political leanings of cities of with a population of over 100,000. Chandler as a whole leans conservative, however, the portion west of the 101 is somewhat more liberal than the rest of the city due to its proximity to Tempe. It is somewhat comparable to Scottsdale when it comes to political leanings - more conservative than Tempe or Phoenix, but less than Mesa or Gilbert.

However, you are correct that Chandler isn't as heavily religious as Gilbert.

I would like to see the link, but I doubt "Proximity to Tempe" is the factor, it is more the abundance apartments and lower cost houses (younger people) if anything. South Chandler where I live is more families and more expensive (larger) houses so you are going to see more people that want to hold onto their money, but are not socially conservative in my experience. I've lived in a few communities and there has been gay couples in each, and everyone gets along with them, little if any ultra religious nuts, a good mix of white, Asian, African American, Latino, etc. There has also been a recent boom in trendy apartment and condo development in South Chandler which will bring in more young people and make it more like the area West of the 101.

When I lived in Chandler I didn't notice any distinct political conservatism and I'm somewhat liberal.

But I lived a little west of the 101 so maybe that made a difference.
