Macy's stock is very weak, never been a big Macy's guy. Nordstrom's is way better even if it is a bit overpriced. Macy's are everywhere its so annoying they are like the McDonald's of Department stores they were at least smart to start consolidating their stores.

Not necessarily. This list only contains the 28 most vulnerable stores, but there will be a total of 100 stores closing.

Sorry to bump an old thread, but based on some information that I found, the three highest performing Macy's locations in the Phoenix area are Scottsdale Fashion Square, Chandler Fashion Center, and Arrowhead Towne Center. So I presume these three are safe.

I am a bit surprised that Arrowhead would outperform the SanTan or Biltmore locations. However, it could be due to the fact that it is the only location in the West Valley.

I think you hit the nail on the head right there, if you live west of the 17 there is not a lot of options for malls. I think Westcor had plans to put a center in the SW valley but since the recession hit I have not heard anything else about it.

In truth, I am really not sure if any locations in the Valley will close. None were identified as particularly vulnerable in any list. The East Valley Tribune stated that all three East Valley locations (Chandler Fashion Center, SanTan Village, and Superstition Springs Center) are presumed safe.

I would not call the Superstition and SanTan locations redundant, since the Superstition location is a much larger store with a larger variety of products, while the SanTan Village location is a smaller store primarily for the convenience of southeast Gilbert and Queen Creek residents. Mesa already lost its Fiesta Mall location, and Chandler Fashion Center would be a bit of a drive for those in far east Mesa who need the full line of products sold at Macy's. Losing the SanTan location would be a bit of an inconvenience for Queen Creek and southeast Gilbert residents.

Now, the interesting story seems to be Biltmore vs. Paradise Valley Mall. In terms of upscale factor and mall performance, Biltmore wins hands down despite the surrounding demographics being comparable (Arcadia vs. the Phoenix neighborhood of Paradise Valley, not to be confused with the Town of Paradise Valley). However, Biltmore is sandwiched between Paradise Valley Mall and Scottsdale Fashion Square, and the Scottsdale location is Macy's #1 performing location in Arizona.

According to this article:
Macy's Sells Five Stores to GGP, Offers Potential Clues to Future Store Closures - CoStar Group

Macerich CEO Art Coppola expects that only one store in the Macerich portfolio will be closed, and that would be the Bloomingdale's store at Santa Monica Place in California. Macerich owns and manages all of the malls here in the Phoenix area that contain a Macy's, so this could hint that all of the Phoenix area locations are safe.

The Paradise Valley Mall is the closest store to most of Scottsdale north of Bell Rd, Carefree, Cave Creek, and North Phoenix north of Shea and East of I-17. While the mall isn't the most happening mall in the metro area, neither the mall nor the Macy's store there are in any real danger.

Macy's already got rid of its low hanging fruit in Phoenix: Fiesta and Metrocenter.

And Macy's has just announced the first 68 of the closing stores, none of which are in Arizona:
http://www.bizjournals.com/phoenix/n...sure-list.html

Despite earlier reports that the Tucson Mall location is slated for closure, it is notably absent on the initial store closing list. Perhaps it will be included in the next closure list of the remaining 32 stores.
