The Chandler Police sponsored an event one weekend and they etched the vin # of my car into the windows and also gave us a free "Club" for protection on the steering wheel. In addition, I have a sticker on the car that alerts police to the fact I never drive at night after 12pm. So if they see my car and the sticker, they know its not me driving it. Someone else has stolen it.

The cheapest thing you can do is add a blinking LED light to your dash. If you are going to get an alarm, make sure you get a 2-way system, rather than just a basic alarm. With a 2-way system, when you lock your doors, it communicates back to your keypad that your car is armed with a beep, if your alarm goes off and you are within 1000ft it will alert you by making lots of loud noises. It has saved my car from being stolen once so I consider it paid for it self already, it was $500 installed.

It also tells me exactly what door is open, and many other things.

Another thing to do is to get rid of the junk in your garage and park your car there.
