Its not a pleasant experience to those who dont like to be around that worthless element. Also be aware of glass in the river and, ahem, literal crap in the water.

I totally agree about tubing on the river, I guess that is okay if you're a teenager or an immature young adult but you're right about the general crowd, it's usually rowdy drunks and other trashy types.
Tubing down the Salt used to be a cool experience until the proverbial riff-raff made its way there and proceeded to destroy what was left of an excellent summer experience.

Im sure it used to be an awesome experience. Now? Not so much. That is unless you're part of the tribal tattoo'd, flat brimmed hat-wearin, aviator sunglass-having dork crowd. Then Im sure its a great time loungin down the river listening to Rihanna, with puke and excrement floating by. No thanks. Id rather blowtorch my own balls off than spend a day with those, uh, fine folks.

If you stay in town, but want to pretend like you're on vacation, we have some really great resort properties here. The Sanctuary, Montelucia and Fairmont Princess are some of my favorites.

I also recommend this place:

Resorts in Phoenix | Pointe Hilton Tapatio Cliffs | AZ, 85020

We did a weekend there this summer for less than 1/3 of the cost due to it being off season.

We go early, around Sunrise, before the tubers even show up. It's pretty awesome at that time of the day and other than some fisherman, cool birds, and wild horses you don't see much of anyone.

Isnt the water frigid, though? Im guessing its probably the same temp as it is during the daytime since it flows good, but when I went in July many years back, the water was cold, even in the daytime. Almost too cold to be in it for an extended period of time.

Hey, if you blowtorch your balls, that should warm you up!

That's what I meant when I said bonding with your new state.
I didn't want you to go visiting and be a spectator in your first adventure, I wanted you to be a participant.
Now you will always have that drive and appreciation to explore our great state instead of standing on the sidelines complaining.

P.S. Did you survive the people with the tattoos and flat brim hats ?
