No I do NOT want a prize.. I just do not think about getting drunk when I have a night out.. NOT my #1 priority... I can have a good time without.... Didn't mean to "offend" any alcoholics on here...

You didn't mean to offend, but you call people that are being responsible by either walking or taking a cab after drinking, alcoholics? Please drop the holier than thou bit. There's nothing wrong with adults having drinks, provided they are being responsible.

You do understand that having only 2 drinks could result in a DUI, right? 2 drinks is far from being "drunk". This thread isn't about you anyway, so we don't really care what you do. The advise was for the OP who is new to town and wanted some info.

DetroitN8V,

You are perceiving my post (and others correctly), Mr. SoCal is not.

The BAC level in Arizona is .08.

It's OK to use alternative transportation if one is going to go out on the town, go to a wedding and wedding party, Super Bowl celebration, work party etc.

Sometimes, some people will reach the .08 limit. Frankly, it's not difficult to do.

People hang out in the front of their houses and wind up interacting with their neighbors more. Here you have the opposite...even in the city the houses are laid out in a very suburban way, and people tend to spend their outdoor time in their backyards instead, isolated from their neighbors. All that is a generalization of course, but it's true more often than not here.

I wish Phoenix had more neighborhoods like this myself. Unfortunately the options for areas that meet your description, while not totally absent, are limited. The Melrose area might be worth looking into (around 7th Ave between Indian School and Camelback), as would Midtown Phoenix along Central, the Roosevelt area, and even Old Town Scottsdale if you are within a half mile or so of Scottsdale Rd. I'd shy away from Mill Avenue in Tempe for the reasons other posters have listed.
Thanks for the info and good points, Sargeant79,

I do know that the vast majority of Metro areas in the US are like what you describe of above and I am not likely to find what I'm looking for.

However, I will look.

I will probably end up in an isolated suburban apartment or housing development where total dependence on a car is the only option. But I'll still look....

I lived in the District of Columbia for a couple of years and chose not have a car. I had a great commute and social life. After 2 years, I decided to buy a car, and that's when parking, parking tickets, and time and money became expendable.

DC (and a lot of metros out east) is a LOT different than here. Things here are much more spread out. It's easy to live in DC or Boston or Philadelphia without a car. Phoenix not so much.

Hardly Holier than Thou.. But if your main goal of going out is to drink enough where you think something will happen, then you need to cut way down or stop drinking...

I have no problem with people having a good time.. I Do have a problem with the entire purpose of going out is to drink and drink and drink...

And since the limit is .08 (which it is mostly everywhere) and you cannot handle that then you need to not do it... Plain and simple..

IF you cannot stop doing it then you are indeed an alcoholic....

This statement in bold confuses me...are you saying that people should never drink past the .08 threshold?
