Hi there! My husband is being relocated to Phoenix. His office will be near I-10 and Baseline Rd. We have two dogs and a toddler. I'm looking for advice on what areas to look for houses in. We would like to stay under $300K for a house. Our first priority is safety. Good schools would be second priority. Any advice? Thank you!

Tempe. Right next door, across the freeway. Good schools in both Tempe Elementary and Kyrene Elementary (Kyrene overall rates higher, but Broadmor Elementary in the Tempe district, for instance is excellent as well). Further south (south of Southern Ave) gets you further away from the main ASU student population, but there are some nice neighborhoods in the Broadmor area, which is closer to the campus.

Finding a lot of great houses for us around those schools, thank you!

Chandler.

It's safe with good neighborhoods and the Kyrene school district is one of the best around. The commute shouldn't be all that bad to I-10 and Baseline.

You should be able to find a decent house in Chandler under $300,000.00 but the nicest neighborhoods will probably be above your pricerange.

Tempe, Chandler and Ahwatukee area of Phoenix are all good choices. Tempe may be the best choice at that price, although Chandler does have some inventory under 300K as well. Not sure if Ahwatukee does or not.

Yep, I would start anywhere East or West of I-10 and Ray or Warner, a couple miles in each direction. There is a bit more traffic getting out of Ahwatukee, but there used to be a back way to Baseline without getting on the freeway, not sure if it still exists.

48th St and it's a parking lot during rush hour. I lived in Ahwatukee (48th St-Ray area) and worked in the Arizona Center downtown Phoenix and the commute was a nightmare.

Commuting from virtually anywhere to downtown is going to be a headache during crush hour times, it's not just Ahwatukee.

My husband and I moved to Arcadia last year, a very nice part of Phoenix with safe neighborhoods and good schools. We don't feel unsafe here at all.
Now about your husband's commute to work.
It might be a tedious drive from Arcadia to I-10 and Baseline but I make a similar drive every day to my job in Chandler. One thing I don't like about Phoenix is the long commutes and everything scattered about, but it is what it is and your priority is finding the right neighborhood for your family. For us the Arcadia area fits the bill.

Note that the actual neighborhood of Arcadia is not possible sub-$300k. I think in a previous post you said you were near Campbell and 40th St which is called "Arcadia Lite", and that area is also tough for a family home under $300k (so are South Tempe and Chandler for that matter, but there are some).
