Spoke w/ Quest rep. and offered me a package: $92.97 includes unlimited long distance and local calls (this is a plus for my teenager who will be calling her friends in Ca.), internet, and direct TV w/ 55 channels including all local channels. No movie channels (which is fine because don't have that now anyway)4 free direct tv installations.

The package sounds really good and cheaper than what I have now but is it too good to be true. How is there service? Had any problems with any of their service?

I think I would lean toward Cox too. Cable is much faster internet than DSL. We have half Cox, half Qwest and DirectTV, too. Both companies have packages at the same prices points. BTW, the local channels in HD are on the standard cable service unscrambled (76-1 thru 81-4). You will need a TV that has an HD tuner, but you don't need to pay them extra. No HDTV on DirectTV without the set top box, a half-dozen wires and an upgrade fee.

I had both while out there. I liked the Qwest stuff, but had a LOT of technological problems, they were out working on lines and stuff constantly. Cox seemed more solid, and definitely faster for about the same price.

I second that. When we moved out here to Arizona, we had to use Quest, it was called something else, anyway there was no choice, if I recall for a long distance carrier, they were nothing but trouble, in fact I recall the state even took them to court and got a big settlement.
They were lets say less then honest when dealing with putting together service for our phones.
As soon as AT& T became available out here, we went with AT&T.
I still hate Quest!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Cox has alot of issues getting things up and running. They DO have good service, but they seem very unorganized.

My uncle moved into a home two months ago - Cox told him his HD Cable, Internet, and Phone Service was on. His cable was on - but was basic service. His internet and phone were not on.

He got me over there, to see if it was just something to do with his pc. Nope. I called Cox - Turned out they didn't even activate the service - And secondly, they didn't even have his information in the system!

His phone service, however, still isn't working.

Default Cox

We have Cox here in Baton Rouge. I use them for high speed Internet and cable. They're kind of hard to get in touch with when you call them, and we've had several internet outages of varying durations throughout the year. However, I WILL say that when you DO get to their customer service people, they are OK to deal with, and (here in BR at least) will readily give you a credit if you have an interruption of a day or more in Internet service.

We've had Cox for the previous two homes. This new house we went with Qwest because we were told only Q was available.

After having them make 5 or 6 housecalls, and replace two 'gateways' (boxes), we told the last service guy just to take everything with him. We had since learned Cox was now available, and had no hesitation making the switch.

But of course, he couldn't take the box. We had to drop it off at a certain location (not near the house), and when we get there, they told us they couldn't take it either. We were given another location to drop it off, and finally got rid of it. What really sucked was Qwest kept charging us for the box for the next three months. We made numerous phone calls explaining we didn't have the box or their service, yet they'd keep right on sending us monthly bills.

Cox isn't perfect, but Qwest looks like a bunch of amateurs in comparison.
