Val Vista Lakes in Gilbert ValVistaLakes.org has a junior olympic pool that is heated in the winter, and a sandy beach pool. They have a lot of amenities including tennis courts, etc., and is close to shopping, restaurants and movies.

Most condo's are one or two bedrooms.

If you're retired and want a place that's geared toward children/granchildren visiting, you'd be hard-pressed to do better then the original Anthem. I'm sure I'll get a ton of flak for saying this, but personally, I'd steer clear of the east valley, but that's just me. Do yourself a favor and make the drive up to Anthem. It's like living in a resort year-round.

Everyone has their own opinion of what areas are best. If you're going to steer someone away from an area, it would help the OP to hear your reasoning.

We just purchased a home in Goodyear at Oasis at Canyon Trails. You can get a nice home in the Brookhaven neighborhood in your price range and this community has a recreation center and community pool. This is a Centex community. This is more like a family community then a 'resort' community.

There are really several nice areas that fit your requirements. I like some of the ones already mentioned, but wanted to mention one more that I like a lot. Trilogy at Vistancia (in Northern Peoria) is a beautiful 55 plus neighborhood that you might want to check out.

Anthem and Val Vista Lakes are very nice. Unsure if they have exclusive 55+ sections within their master planned communities.

Haven't seen Canyon Trails, so unable to comment about that one.

I agree with honeymom about Trilogy at Vistancia. It is exclusively for 55+, and is amazing. Equally amazing are the "all ages" Vistancia communities called Vistancia Village and Blackstone. All three are next to each other and make up the entire master planned community of Vistancia. So lots of cool things to choose from including lots of different builders, home styles, and floorplans. We live in Vistancia Village, and love it. Definitely worth checking out. Best wishes!

We also live in Vistancia Village across the street from the Trilogy retirement community. The Kiva club is their resort quality facility for members only. The ammenities are numerous. There is a restaurant that we Villagers can visit called the Grill. The food is wonderful and you can enjoy your meal out on the patio that overlooks the golf course. Trilogy is by Shea Homes and they also have started another development down in Queen Creek. We just made a trip down to see the homes and I would highly recommend that you keep this on your list. This community is a blend of our family side with the 55+ crowd. The golf course is one of the largest we have come across. Their club house will be similar to the Blackstone club house here, very upscale. The floor plans were nicely done and the finishes available were nothing short of spectacular. The homes start in the mid $200,000's. There is quite a difference between Queen Creek and North Peoria. We prefer N. Peoria as it sits up in the foothills and we love the views we have. Go to New Home Builder - Welcome to Shea Homes! Caring Since 1881 and you can see the different developments that they have. Best of luck

There are lots of great places as posted in this thread but I would ask that you think about ease of access to the airport, quality health care, shopping/dining/entertainment, etc.

If you don't have friends and/or family visting much, are in great health and don't go out a lot there are lots of beautiful areas...Gold Canyon, Ftn Hills, Anthem, Vistancia, etc. the number one thing I hear from clients after a year or so in one of these resort type communities is that they getted bored with the same old stuff (as do their visitors).

Having said that, Sun Lakes is a great 'in-town' community that is worth a look!
