After 5 years in Gilbert it has finally occurred to me that my children, now 6 & 7, will not ever be included in LDS activities. We came here from New England where people are mostly very tolerant of others beliefs. I never thought I would have to ask a question like this but we have no community. Both the public elementary school and a charter school here have treated my children very differently than the LDS kids are treated. They are not able to make friends.

Are there any safe haven neighborhoods in Chandler? Any neighborhoods with great schools that teach respect and appreciation for differences?

Thank you so much for your insight.

I'm not LDS and grew up in Gilbert. Never have I felt excluded.

You just got in with a wrong group. Gilbert is amazing.

Chandler is too...id recommend Ocotillo area if you move.

I assume there are many neighborhoods in Chandler that are not majority LDS, which I assume is what you mean. That said, as AZJD indicated, not everyone experiences what you have in Gilbert, either. Ocotillo in Chandler is a nice area, the schools there (Jacobsen Elementary, Bogle Jr High) are good. There are many others, I'm quite sure.

Yeah, I lived in Chandler for quite some time and our kids got along fine. While there is a LDS presence in Chandler, it is not nearly as much as Mesa or Gilbert. However, having said that, Gilbert isn't too bad either, in my experience. Keep looking because there are wonderful schools in Chandler and Gilbert.
